My nephew makes bad music

Satire is difficult to do. Good satire is darn-near impossible.
Here are my ratings:

I. Original Post / Thread Creation Troll: 7/10 -- Not terrible, but not great. A solid effort to be sure.
II. Satirical Album / Artist Bandcamp Page & Content: 7.5/10 -- Better than the OP but only marginally so. The "artist" representation is the strongest element of this spoof. The supporting text contains spelling errors which is completely unacceptable.
III. Music and Lyrics: 5/10 -- Here is where the parody falls apart. Not completely humorless, but mostly unoriginal, uninspired, and repetitive. The lad is not Frank Zappa.

Anyway, that's how I see it.

Funny you mention this. It's quite in vogue these days to advertise oneself as Zappa-esque. Most of these acts fail on either a lack of cleverness or a lack of musicality. I think the OP's first song was quite clever in an absurdist sort of way, but it lacks the crisp, biting satire of Zappa at his best. Musically, it's nowhere close. But it is of its time, and as such, it's got its merits.

Tekashi has managed to keep a sizable fan base despite being outed as a police informant.
I think one can get away as a tattle provided one possesses a a commensurate and opposing amount of charm,
as does, obviously, Tekashi.

Just pointing out that this thread, criticizing your nephew's music, will forever be on talkbass.

Life is complicated eh? If this thread is a farce, then phew, cool. :-) I am just pointing these thoughts out in case it's actually a serious thread.

It's so hard to know how to handle things.

My kids are talented and hard working at music. One of them is a better songwriter than I am (and has been for years, and she's still only 15). Another has a better singing voice than me or than her 2 sisters. And the third has written songs and works hard on music production and editing... she's 12.

So yea, I just try to focus on the good points about each of their contributions to music. There's always something positive. :)

I can say that I`m usually right on with LBS-bass and this time isn`t much different. Betraying ones confidence straddles a fence on whether or not the situation endangers someone. I haven`t heard the music and if all information is general, hey, that`s rock and roll, but if it is specific enough to make you feel it warrants an intervention, I say "do it". Confront your nephew first. Maybe he can puts things into perspective and if your gut tells you something`s wrong, you may direct his parents to check out his music themselves. Sure, he might hate you for a while or maybe disown you altogether, but what`s right is right. In the end, you`ll be happier that you did, and eventually he`ll either be mature to see that in the future.... or he won`t.

My grandparents didn't like my parent's music.
My parents didn't like my music.
I don't like most of my kid's music.
I'm pretty sure my kids are not going to like my (theoretical) grandkid's music.

As for the content, one word of advice: don't assume random internet buddies on a bass forum are the best source for serious familial advice.
