First off i would like to say hey all, im new here and had to join as it seems such an awesome place.

Anyway back to the reason im posting this. i have just be given a "fixer-upper" by my uncle and its seen better days. This is the bass which has been passed around to everyone for them to learn on. Now i spotted that neck is warped but spoke to a Luther in the local store who said it is warped but doesnt vibrate so is playable, so i will replace the neck later on after i have done the rest. I am planning on replacing the bridge, nut, pickgard, wireing and pots and jack. I have tested the pick-ups and they work.

I was just wondering if there is any other things i can do to this to make it the best bass possable and i know you guys are very knowledgable.

I know some people would say that i should just throw it away but it has allot of sentimental value and i think it will sound good when finished.

well if the electronics work then i would leave them be for now
The main thing is the neck.
If it is indeed twisted then you can get a replacement easily
Looks like it has a standard Fender neck heel
so you can go either cheap (Mighty Mite) or not so cheap (ALLPARTS, Warmoth etc,.)
I would never ever throw it away!
first of all its in freaking Fiesta Red AND it has a maple neck!! and its got free mojo to boot!!

down the road you can add a better pickup but so far it looks very workable

Looks like it needs either a new nut or the existing one sorting out.

If it is a ply body I would not spend a fortune on a new neck. Not that I have anything against ply bodies. I have a project bass with a ply body and love the way it plays and sounds, but that is mainly down to the pickup which is probably worth more than the rest of the bass.

You may be able to get rid of the signature with T-cut (as used on cars for buffing/cutting out light scratches and reviving faded paintwork). It would probably bring the rest of the paintwork up nicely as well.

If that neck plays ok then give it a good clean, a new set of strings and set the intonation, a new volume knob and play the hell out of it.

Looking at the pictures again I would strip the bridge and give it a real good clean.

The intonation screw on the E string looks to be bent so I would check them all and replace any screws that look like they need it, damaged heads, bent, or more rust than you are prepared to tolerate for the mojo.

You could put a new bridge on it but it may look out of place on an otherwise well worn bass.

Oh and don't let Ben pee on it!
