My new Sadowsky M5-24

Hey, I'm just a white guy from the 'burbs but I've always associated Urban Gospel with MTD's and Ken Smiths. How do the 3 stack up against each other in that arena?

IMO, Sadowsky moderns get a sound that is pretty close to a Ken Smith.

Agreed, they don't come cheap but for that level of quality I don't think the price is out of line. I think it was probably the least expensive of the basses I played in the store. I'm not feeling gouged.

I agree, I just compared it to my Smith and they both have thick, growling lows and clear, singing highs along with a nice, clean bite. Both basses have a bottom end that has plenty of solid fundamental but isn't muddy. I can't imagine why the Sad wouldn't work in gospel music.

That's a nice looking bass! I bought my M5-24 a little over a year ago from Bass Central as well. You can see mine (11th bass down) on their Sadowsky page. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I've found that I can make this bass work on nearly everything, even Motown as long as you aren't trying to duplicate the P bass thing exactly. The clean and tight sound is great live and it records beautifully. Also, the playability is really smooth and it's easy to play chords and lines all the way up the neck.

Others may disagree, but for me, the VTC is a must have for this bass.

I agree with you, but where I really think the moderns come into their own is pick playing on grindy modern rock. Almost all of them I've played impressed me as great for that stuff.
