Just got a pitchblack and while at rehearsal the guitar player would not leave me be about spending 90 bucks on a tuner. He paid 45 for his fender. So, as a joke I said he could use it to tune his guitar when he was ready to be a big boy. In concurrence, he bet me his take of the next gig (60$) that his fender tuner was just as accurate as the Korg. I took it. After he "tuned" on his pedal I took the guitar, played a few chords and a lick or two and then we all gathered around to re-tune the instrument. It was # and b by a few cents all over the place. The entirety of the band was present to assure him that he was wrong and had been put in his place. I then preceded to take his money and thanked him for helping me purchase my pedal while the guys all laughed and pointed at him. Thank you Korg.

Whenever my guitarist makes use of my Korg rackmount tuner, he always says "Wow man its so accurate". I switched it to strobe mode and im pretty sure his brain imploded. Might have to start putting some bets on it...

It sounds like you fixed the biggest problem in all bands. A guitarist without a brain is way easier to control than one still using it.

In the true scientific method - you don't really know WHICH ONE was off. You need THREE tuners to be sure!

You are correct. At least that's the way we did it in school. Line up 3 suit cases and tune.

Yeah, I was wondering..how did you know his tuner was off and not yours?
To test the accuracy of a tuner requires the ability to read an absolutely accurate and known frequency, so did you at least tune off a fork or other known source? It seems you proved that your tuner and his tuner read differently rather then one better then the other, as others have pointed out.

I get you, now. The chords and licks played sounded more in tune after the Korg compared to after being tuned with the Fender, right?

weird.. i have the fender PT-100 (or whatever its called) and both of my old guitar players had the PB tuner. we did this same test and my tuner and the lead's tuner were sync'd.

The Fender tuners I've seen are notoriously bad.
The Korg Pitchblack is notoriously good (I own and use three).
Easy bet. But it was cold-blooded to make a sucker of a band mate and actually take his money.

Even if your tuner is off, as long as all the instruments are tuned with the "bad" tuner it will sound fine

I dunno, when it reads different and inconsistently for every note, even guitars tuned with the same "bad" tuner will be out of tune from each other.

DOD "Tuna" pedal is horrible...couldn't find a note if you glued it to the pedal.
Old Radio Shack handheld meter tuner: great for beginners and pretty darn accurate. But you have to switch for each string.
Sabine AX3000 contact tuner: excellent for acoustic guitar, but some folks don't like sticking them on the soundboard. I've tried on bass and it's hit or miss.
Line 6 (built-in tuners on M13 and Line 6 Pod XT Live)..also fast and easy to read when you're near the note (hard to read the note name though). I just hate having to wait 2 seconds to switch to them.
Korg DT-1000...best effing tuner ever. Fast, easy to read, and can handle the low B. Best $100 I never spent (got mine for free).
