Mechanical failure could be anything, manufacturer defect, punctured tire from road debris, etc.
like i said above when a car cuts in front of you (cutting you off) and then slams on the breaks... that be one of them... in eyes of the law its your fualt because hit is dead on rear in reality its not...
mechanically... that why i said "most likely" I do understand sometimes its the car... but out of cars we had come in to shop that were in accedent because of mechanical failure a lot of times it was because person didnt take care of the car and rarelly because of something he could not prevent...
Most of cases its old breaks or bald tires or steering failure... A lot of times its same people to whom we told "fix this... you have to because you will get into accedent" and they blow us off because some cousin who likes cars told them that you dont need to do those things...
I've seen that too many times...
