My preamp journey

Glad to hear you're feeling better.I see many preamps on the boards,I have some of the same.Do you mostly combine them or switch for different songs?
Thank you man, and I sincerely appreciate the well wishes and encouragement, it means a lot!

the short answer is yes :-) Sometimes I combine them, sometimes I use a single preamp. The Colourbox and Alix are always on so they provide tone shaping - the Noble as well is always on and give the board that Noble magic. The AMT I use more as a drive pedal and to really fatten up the sound, the Slampegg when I need a good rock sound, and I kick in the Thespian to add body. Hope that helps!

Ooph I'd have a hard time parting either of those out. Honestly I'd keep it in case you get gigging heavy and need to rehearse at a separate place that way you don't have to schlep it everytime you jam.
and they say Talkbass is bad for GAS ... I don't see it! :-)

I actually thought about that, but I don't see myself gigging heavily any time in the foreseeable future, if ever. My day job takes up way too much time, and unless one of my screenplays makes it big, I am destined to be a weekend warrior for the rest of my life. And I am okay with that. Kinda ...

You have all the angles covered. Nothing wrong with weekend warriors.

Well lookie here. This finally arrived and though I've only had a short time playing with it I'm liking what I hear right off the bat. Word of advice, don't have anything sent via Russian Post. They completely screwed the pooch with this one mailed in early February.Kazpost had this to my door in under 2 weeks.

@moon-bass Thanks for turning me onto this thread. Very informative It seems you have tried plenty of things I've been wondering about. The Arkham Oracle pre-amp seems it would be a good starting point before getting a Noble? or just save up for the Noble? I don't gig so strictly for home, recording, and Jamming. I am extremely new to pedals I bought a Keeley Bassist compressor price was a consideration and great reviews another. What does the Cali76 or Empress do or provide the Bassist doesn't. What's your take on the Xotic Bass RC Booster V2? A friend is selling to me Bass RC so cheap I have to get it. LOL I'll post pics of my current newbie board it's still a work in progress any input would be greatly appreciated by you and all of you guys. My Birthday Present will be the Caveman BP1 compact pre-amp in October. Because I'm still in the middle of finishing up my initial purchases to learn what I hate and or love. Earthquake Dispatch Master is inbound and I just ordered Ciocks superpower bundle. I have a great power conditioner in my practice space but will soon be getting a much better power strip to plug everything into the conditioner.

Current rig is in this order.
Bass> Tuner Pitch Black mini> MXR Octave Deluxe> Josh Wah Env Filter> Rodenberg LDP Deluxe OD/Dist/Clean Boost> TC MojoMojo OD> TC Blood Moon Phaser> TC Thunderstorm Flanger > EHX Bass Clone Chorus> EQD Dispatch Master Reverb & Delay (is inbound)> Genz-Benz Combo. All cables are Ernie Ball Flat except for 3' Eminence cable from the Mojo to the BloodMoon. PS for now Vangoa VS10 it will be relegated to emergency backup PS.

Was thinking of putting the Bass RC after the Dispatch master may be redundant LDP has 20DB boost. Or figured it could be a source of a little dirt different than what I already have some what of pre-amp. Once my MXR M82 Envelope filter is fixed at Dunlop it will be on the board. I also want a different type of Octave pedal to add to the board leaning towards Gojira FX Octave generator or Behringer Octave Divider (pedal is huge and very few reviews). I still need to determine if Fuzz is for me. Bought and returned Fox Gear Bass Muffin it just wasn't musical to me. Fuzz pedals I'm considering Way Huge Pork & Pickle OD/Fuzz, MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe Dry & Wet controls Or Pigtronix Star Eater very versatile Fuzz but bigger foot print. Fuzz is the lowest on my totem pole. Even thought about a EHX HotWax OD.

I know that was long winded but I think that's everything as of today :)

yeah, you were right :-) I decided to keep the boards but downsize a little. I'll post pics later once I clean them up a little.

Someone needs to start a "pedalboard wiring business." Everything is in place, but man, wiring cables is a PITA!

The Oracle and Noble are very different IMO. It really depends on what you are looking for. The Oracle is much more flexible - you can OD it, the EQ is more flexible, and it sounds killer. That was a hard one to get rid of. That being said, the Noble is just an amazing piece of gear. The EQ is responsive, and it adds a fullness/3D quality to the tone. It's like "your bass sound but better."

All three are different flavors of good :-) IIRC the Keeley didn't have metering and was a little more transparent than the Cali and Empress. The Cali and empress also add a bit more punch and fullness to my signal.

I'm a fan. I sold mine awhile back because I get the punch from a compressor, but the RC is a nice pedal and a good boost.

Man, I am GASsing for one of these. I'm a huge fan of Neve-inspired gear.

Thanks for responding... The Empress seems like the next choice to try its cheaper lol Sounds like I'll just save up for the Noble but if the Caveman doesn't fly then maybe its Oracle time. The RC its a done deal I just need to pick it up. The learning curve is huge and the options endless but my money is not :)

There's places that do it for sure. I know Bestronics Bpta in Tinley park near Chicago do it. I've bought most of my stuff from them for my board

El Jefe,
a word of harsh criticism, if you can take it.

Your collection of pedals always makes the corner of my mouth drool - yet
your methods of putting them on pedalboards always make my eyes water.
Okay, so this any better? :)

I'm giving you a gold star.Much neater, but I still wouldn't know where to begin. What is the pedal with the satanic script to the left of the Pitch Fork? Also you have more than one LP-HPF going on if I'm not mistaken.I can't wrap my head around those while many sing their praises.

That is a John K Mutron clone with old school octocouplers (they say that's where the magic is) and other high end components. Only one HPF and one LPF. Here's the line up (in order of signal chain)

Tuner
Cali76 Compressor
SY-200 Bass synth
John K Mutron clone
EXH Pitchfork
EHX Mainframe
Nobels OD
Lucy Dream OD
AMT A Bass
Free the Tone Bass Blaster
Mr Black Mini chorus
One Control Prussian Blue Reverb
Broughton LPF
SIB Fatdrive
Becos CompIQ Compressor (thinking about swapping this out for an Empress)
Grace Designs Alix (built in LPF)
Noble Pre

I ended up dismantling the medium sized board and putting a bunch of stuff up for sale. That leaves me with this board, my small board, a Line 6 POD Go, and a whole bunch of orphan preamps :-)
