i don't know if i'm a rickenbacker purist, but i'm definitely NOT jealous. it's the OP's bass and he's certainly entitled to do whatever he wants with it, but personally, i think that he took a nice, fairly rare ric and ruined it, both in appearance and function.

You mentioned that you need altered tools to get your job done...))))))))) A active ric with barts will sure get you where you need to be)))))))Paul Mccartney, Geddy Lee and every other famous and unfamous ric user where blind and mindless, WE'RE SOOOOOO LUCKY YOU CAME ALONG with your bright ideeas!!!

I agree about the bridge. It is a thin, low-mass archaic piece of crap. It lacks basic minimal string-specific adjustability, it has to be screwed in from basically every conceivable angle to prevent it from folding & bending due to the inappropriate metal gauge chosen for it. I could go on for days....

BUT, the Hipshot Ric bridge has that saddle wobble issue which is inescapable when the action is really low so I'm out on that one and stuck with the stock unit.

I have been considering going with a hipshot and modding it for string-thru use to increase the downward pressure on the saddles which could eliminate the saddle wobble issue?

Ruined for him? No. At least, I hope it's perfect for him. Because if it isn't and he ends up selling it, it IS ruined for me. Though one could still re-mod it back, albeit only to a solid color.

Naive? Yeah, no. Seriously, who would have suspected this many would be this freaked out by something that they are not remotely invested in on any legitimate level?

A few nay-sayers, sure, but this sort of assault by way of 3 different websites? C'mon boy, this is unreal.

I thought this site was "Talkbass". I had no idea it was actually "Bitchgripejudgewhinecomplainbass".

regarding Paul Mccartney's, all he did was a poor refin (sloppily sanded) but he's Paul McCartney, and that bass is worth a fortune because of it. and he didn't go routing big holes in it.

and on Chris Squire's, he refinned it too (thinning down the body in the process), but again Squire's bass would also be woth a fortune, whereas the OP's bass IMO, went from being a beauty worth about $2K to a piece of junk worth $400.

and both Paul and Chris did their mods back in the days when people didn't know any better. ;)

IME, most people that do something like this eventually realize that it was a huge mistake and regret it, and end up with an instrument that didn't improve it's sound or performance.

i've spent many years restoring thousands of vintage guitars and basses (since 1973) and it always pains me to see something like this happen to a nice bass, since it now is only desirable to a very small group of people, but to each his own.
