Hello!

I'm a big fan of Rickenbacker basses but I cannot afford to pick one up. So I've taken my Schecter C4XXX and modified it to make it sound as close to a Rickenbacker as I could. For the most part I think it sounds close. Everyone always compliments it's tone, I run it through a Ampeg V-6B head and a 6X10 Classic cab. Here's a clip of the "Schecinbacker" run straight into a 4 track recorder (NO ampeg, just the bass) It's super trebly and I'm tryin to get that ric growl, but I'm goin for that vintage 70's sound to stand out as lead bass in my band. In a nutshell I'm tryin to get Cliff Burtons Sound. Tell me what you think or if any, have any advice. I love to frankenstein my basses!

What mods did you make to your bass then? And where are the pics?!?!
I wouldn't say your tone sounded much like a Rickenbacker to be honest, but it did sound like Cliff's tone. Beware though, with a tone like that it would be easy to be lost in the mix if you have a wall of distorted guitars! But I did like the sound though.

Sorry guys! I didnt think anyone was gonna actually repsond! Here's a pic of it. Is their actually something called a Schecinbacker? I was making it up haha. I put in The Rickenabcker Replacement pickups from Seymour Duncan. Ya i figured with that tone it would get lost in a wall of distortion. But hey Cliff did it right haha. I know it doesnt really sound like a ric, but its the closest thing I could do. Also I got a push/pull pot in so when I use distortion for lead I can turn off the lower pickup and use the brighter one with the push/pull. Sorry for the delay!

People have been calling the 004 Schecters Schecterbacker's since they first appeared.

Personally i feel they look a lot like the Ibanez Roadster basses from the 80's.

But here's more the shape of what people have been considering the Schecterbackers, and this photo is of an 005 5-string prototype after they released their 004 basses and later their Stargazer line of basses.

I almost did that! I was gonna instal a Seymour Duncan Strat Hot Rail Pickup but I couldnt find a place to put it and I was gonna maybe have to cut into the wood. I wanted to hide it so I was gonna place it near the bridge and have a jazz pickup chrome cover installed to hide it but the guy told me to try gettin the push/pull and see how I like it. I wanted to install the pickup and have a switch where I could flip it to activate the hot rail. does anyone here see any wya I can do that without defacing the poor bastard?

Here's some close up shots, If anyone knows a creative way I can hide a single coil pickup or not demolish the bass that would be awesome! I dont think I have any room where the Original EMG pickups were removed.

5 string 004, that's cool. would it be a 005 then?
