I've uploaded a new version of my web based speaker modeling program. I wrote this as a training exercise, to try out JavaScript programming. I think it now works well enough to share with others. As always, if you're planning on buying drivers and cutting plywood, I recommend getting a second opinion from another modeling program, and to discuss your ideas on one of the respected forums (TB, Greenboy, Bill Fitzmaurice).

I appreciate comments. Hopefully this should work on all platforms, including PCs, phones, and tablets.

The only interesting new feature is that you can now "save" and share a design. Here's how it works: All of your driver and box parameters are embedded in a URL, which you can copy from a text box near the bottom of the page. Anybody can enter that URL into their browser, and your design will pop up. For instance, here's my little lightweight 1x12 box:

Pretty neat! I seems to work on my mac and iPad.

The FAQ refers to speaker5.html and speaker5a.html. I don't see them on your site.

Great use of embedding the "saved" parameters info the URL.

Wish more programmers would adopt these simple universal tricks.
Thanks. I learned sometime ago that manipulating and parsing the URL is a viable alternative to cookies, so I decided to figure out how to do it. What I like from a developer and user standpoint is that I can avoid bringing yet another program into the world that messes with files on the user's computer or leaks their information.

Can now do basic box models from my smartphone (which makes up a good 95% of my internetting).

I especially like the waveform based models in addition to the constant power test tone. That is very useful in predicting real world, bass playing performance of the design.

Going to mess with this here and there throughout the day, see what I can come up with.

So...if I did it right, that should be my 215 BigBoy cab using my trusty old 1505DT-8 Black Widows in a ~7.4 cu.ft (210 liter) cab with ~46hz tuning getting hit with 400 watts.

The 4 square ports should work out to be 8 triangle-shaped ports (4 per driver) half the size of one square each. Might increase their area a little bit, but the waveform plot is pretty telling.

Cool stuff.

Strictly as a bass cab maybe so.

The 46hz (in combination with the fixed 24db/40hz hpf on my crossover) serves to control cone excursion when it doubles as a quasi-subwoofer for my small PA. Really only concerned with output there in the 50-100hz octave, which it has plenty of to hang with my 95-ish db tops.

Could probably come up with a port cover scheme to run either/or.

So far, the cab only exists in my mind, so, easy to make changes. :)

My (real life) 115 cab for the same driver is 4cu.ft @ 50hz. Figured I could shrink it a little without losing anything meaningful and gain some power handling, but we'll see.

The spl charts for those at Peaveys site were taken in an actual cab of 3.5 cu.ft. @ 40hz. Gives 97-98db in the lows to 100+ over 200hz. Pretty impressive for a single 15, but you can get even more/bigger bass out of them by manipulating the box. Get close to that 100db across what I'd consider the whole "meat" range of a bass. And that's before you stack up another one and turn up the volume. :)

That's one of my Deltalite 112's. I used two of those for a lot of gigs.

Oddly, the boxes are almost exactly twice the size of Fdecks cab, but probably too deep/woofy for doublebass.

I made those when the vast majority of my paying gigs were smallish outdoor courtyard/winery/small town square type affairs, where it was a tossup between adding a little bass in the PA for reinforcement or just turning the amp up and driving it from stage. (I chose the latter when I could. Louder is funner :) ).

I thought they sounded pretty nice on electric bass outdoors. Lowend didn't get lost. But they did need to be tamed down some indoors.

Going to redo those into about an even 2 cu.ft each, maybe even 1.8 or 9, and lower the tuning to somewhere 41-44hz, as sort of a happy medium. May have to add a bit of lows outdoors but not a whole lot, and cut them a bit indoors, but again not a whole lot.

That version (2.25 cu.ft. @ 47-48hz) was pretty much designed for outdoor/no boundry play, and you'd have to fight some mud/boom indoors.

Looks like sealed box behavior to me.


For my ported 112, I used two 3" tube ports. That adds up to about 14 sq.in. I just used 7" x2" for width and height and the graph looks the same as my WinISD model for the same cab.

For the 215 model, I just entered four ports of 4" x 4" size and the graph seems right for using 8 triangle ports that all add up to the same area.

Sadly Zero doesn't work on Francis' excel sheet. I like that for comparing driver performance.
