About a year ago I posted a poll based on what people thought was the source of my upright bass sound. Here's a recent video of it in action. The volume isn't as loud as I would like it but, it captures it.

This is an original song by my trio, BTW



This bass was a $500 bargain on ebay that my luthier told me was worth at least quadruple what I paid for it. Frankly, considering that only one or two companies make a production bass similar to this ( all of them over 3G ) it's even more valuable to me...

I know, I needed to point the amp to the camera...but I'm still working out the kinks when it comes to feedback. I have to sit in the opposite direction as the amp or interesting things happen...

I have balloons in the f holes, velcro around the strings at the tailpiece to help mitigate it, but at certain volumes it can get hairy. I also have my guitarist keep his amp aimed away from me, as well...

Bit off topic, but as I watch you guys play jazz, I noticed something funny most jazz guitar/bass players do. After a lick/phrase of some kind, they tend to let their hand let go off the neck, almost the same as a singer or a trumpet/sax player has to take a breath. Very funny.

I subbed because I'd like to know the maker, because I'm GASsing for that thing, after this clip. :P

I can tell you that my hand was very tired that evening as I've been storyboarding for Doc McStuffins and had been drawing 12 hours a day for several days in a row. So I literally needed to let my hand relax after certain phrasings. But, the last several years I've tried to breath and sing through my solos better so that my phrasing would be more conversational...some solos are better than others ;-)

It is, but to my ear, mine sounds more upright-like than the Takamine— and it cost me about $2500 less...

I don't think anyone knew what to expect it to sound like when it was up for auction. ( except for me ) It sat at $500 for a week...I won the auction with my initial bid and I had K&K piezos put in ( $150 including installation) and voila!
