Back when I could order singles through Jason @ BassStringsOnline, I was on a hunt to put together the most balanced GHS P Flats set I could. I moved on to other strings at that time but still have all these P Flats in my collection, so i revisited the concept on an Aria P Bass I picked up recently.
The original goal was to put together a set that was a little more "plump" sounding that TI Jazz Flats, with more lows & low-mids but with less of a center-mid bump. I also wanted more tension than TIs so I don't have to chase the strings around ( I usually tune down 1/2 step), but if possible I wanted to capture the suppleness to the fretting hand that the TIs have.
I tried various combinations, including the stock Light 40-95 3025 set, but settled on the set listed below as my favorite.
(TECH NOTE: I'm adding the tension from the GHS tension chart where available, and for those gauges not listed in their chart I've provided an approximate mean value based on the adjacent string gauge values. TI tension also provided for comparison.)
