Mystery Goodwill Auction Bass -- $223?!

I'm having a hard time figuring out what this Goodwill Auction bass is and how the bidding could go from $7.99 to $223 in about two hours.

I've never bought a bass from Goodwill, or any other auction site. The mechanics and strategy of bidding and winning anything are quite beyond my ken so I'm not trying to make a killing or anything on this and am not bidding. I'm just curious what it is and why J****a and t****x think it worth so much. Plus shipping and handling. The tag on the neck looks like Fender Black B... Wish they'd taken a closer shot of the wild body graphics. Is that two straight pickups and a humbucker? Canted nut?
Please help me scratch my curiosity itch.

The bass is a Hagstrom-IB that's had a humbucker p/u added to it. The serial # dates it to 1966.

Cool @Thornton Davis, the site had another Hagstrom displayed just above this unlabeled one. Also pricey for Goodwill. Somebody must love it. Thanks, that took 49.3 seconds counting web lag.

Pricey and popular judging by Ebay. This 1968 one is in better shape than the Goodwill one, asking over $1300usd. And, you'd have to suppose chopping it up to add a humbucker might also harm the value.
Goodwill Auction basses often seem like bargains until you add in expensive shipping and handling. Plus you can't play it. I can do as well at pawnshops and CL and flea markets for cheap projects. I'm not a gambler so I'd never risk much actual valuable money buying a pig in a poke, sight unseen and sound unheard. And I'll never understand winning bidding.
