NAD: Genzler 350 combo

I had the chance try them all and my verdict
bass aray 10-2 with magellan 800

for me

The speaker bass array 10-2 (The little David)
sound more tight and more flexible for different king of sound
and they also sound good wen i elevate them from the ground
and they sound simply gorgeous at low level, everything is in there but my neighbour won't call the police :)

the magellan 800

because of the overdrive circuitry, i do no use it for "over drive" but it actually give me like another kind of bass amp, another palette of sound it is like having 2 amps.... so it beats the 350. The 350 as and off power but
mist the flexibility and also important the insert for fx in my case a lexicon 300 that beast any pedal fx and it is super clean :)

cool. It sounds as if you made a purchase? More than one 110-2?

I've spent some more time with my 110-2 and I'm liking it more and more... I could see going the other direction and parting with my 12-3, replacing it with another 110-2 or two. And the head... I guess I should have a back-up right? So keep both? The entire line of gear just sounds so good. I'm glad I have one of each head and of both of the mentioned cabs and at this point and don't have to make any decisions :thumbsup:

I do need to stay away from the 210-3 and 410-3 though :woot:

Purchase the magellan 800 and one 110-2 ....and super happy ...my previous kit was a monster(phil jones m500, b9 cab plus one cab jbl 2226 and more) and really to heavy for me, reaching 65 years , time to think light but my new Genzler is a real blessing sound super fantastic at low level and this is what i need, i had the opportunity to try al cab except the 4 10" and i prefer the 110-2 ,why ? definition , definition, definition ... and i prefer the 800 over the 350, just pressing the Drive and both at 12 o'clock gave new like a new amp i just love it, plus the capacity to insert what ever i what in the signal path.... so surprising that such a small cab will perform that way....

Love all my Genzler gear. I’ve got a Shuttlemax 12.2, Uber 1288 and 115 cabs, a Shuttle 6.2 combo and Shuttle 2x10 extension cab, a Shuttle 9.2 combo, a Magellan 800, 12-3 and 210-3 cab, and the 350/10-3 combo. I continue to be amazed how light yet powerful Jeff’s gear is - in nearly 42 years of playing the bass guitar, they’re the best amps/cabs I’ve ever used (and I’ve owned Alembic, Ampeg, Fender, Peavey, Mesa Boogie, etc.).

yeah... I had the Shuttle 3.0-8 combo and a shuttle 9.0 before my Genzler gear. they are simply right.

I’ve also had only one rig which meant more schlepping than I really wanted to do. I thought about one of the Fender Rumbles and tried them and liked them well enough for serious consideration. I also thought about the Carvin MB110. I had one of their acoustic guitar combos for a while and liked it a lot so thought that might be a reasonable choice as well.

Carvin went out of business which raised its own issues and the 110 combos sold out pretty quickly. I didn’t want the larger size combos - the 115 or 210 - so they were out of consideration. The Rumbles were still on the table for price, reasonably good sound, and a variety of choices in size & weight. As I said, I love my Genzler gear and the added flexibility of the removable head, basically the same preamp as the 800 with a smaller power amp section and minus the dirty channel (which I don’t use) pushed me in that direction. I figured this rig gives me multiple options - with the smaller head plus either cab or both cabs (there have been a number of reports that the BA12-3 and the BA10-2 play well together) and the bigger head with the larger cab or both cabs - so some six different configurations. I also figured that owning this little rig might give me more information for the future in case I want to upsize or downsize or both.

The amp arrived this week while I was out of town for a business meeting so I didn’t get to plug it in until today... played it a bit and man am I impressed. It does sound and feel like its bigger brother and is both bigger sounding and louder than I expected. My first impression is that this little guy would meet 90% of my uses and with a second little cab, likely all of them at this time.

The form factor is very cool. It is quite small and very light weight. If I remove the saddle and use it as a head/cab rather than a combo, the cab will slide under my bed which makes the spouse happy to not have more gear taking up space.

Tomorrow or Tuesday I’ll get to compare it to the larger rig and get a sense of how it differs other than volume and how the two cabs play together.

I also got the carry bag. It is seriously padded and well designed. The downside of all of the padding is that it is also significantly larger than I expected.

All in all, this is top shelf gear and for anyone who wants/needs a rig that sounds amazing, gets reasonably loud, has a small footprint, and is very schlepable, check it out.

Thanks for this overview. I'm not sure what kind of gigs you're playing but what kind of stage volume could you expect from this (not asking it to carry - I would be DI to the board). Just looking for something that could almost act as a bass-only monitor. Then, I could use just it for smaller gigs. Thoughts? Thanks!

I have since sold the 350 head… I kept one rig at my office and one at home, then retired so no office. I kept both cabs and decided to sell one head. Because I had both I kept the larger one just in case. Either would have sufficed for my needs.

To the questions, I was playing a lower volume church band, side player for a couple of singer/songwriters, and pre-covid in a guitar based pop band. None of the situations involved me going through FOH. The 10-2 cab would have been too little for the pop band but was enough for all of the other settings. The 350 head with that small cab is surprisingly potent. As a bass only monitor, I can’t imagine it not being enough unless the guitar players were playing through full stacks at loud volumes. Assuming that we’re talking about reasonable stage volumes with everyone going FOH, I think a single BA10-2 with a strong enough head, like the 350, would be more than adequate. I’d put the cab up on a stand and enjoy it. Of course, it will not move air like a refrigerator, but you don’t want that anyway.
FWIW, I go back and forth in my current gigs between the single BA10-2, BA12-3, and rarely both, all with the Genzler 800 head. I have some gigs coming up in a trio format - acoustic drums, acoustic guitar, and me - outside at some wineries with no PA support for bass and will start with the BA12-3 but may go to the smaller cab, depending on how I feel. I’m sure either would be loud enough.
