so, when I joined a band 3 or 4 years ago I got an Ampeg SVT IIP which I paired with a Crown Class-D power amp. It served me well, but ever since then I wanted to have an SVT II.
Now recently a cheap SVT 300 popped up and a friend brought it to a concert of his band.
Since I bought it blind I didn't know it had some fall damage, the metal chasis was bent inwards (some hammering and bending helped) and one of the 6550s lost it's keyed post. So time to change tubes sometime in the future as well as recap it. Befor that I wanted to try it with my cab though, since I will be moving to a different city soon and leave most of my bulkier stuff in the rehearsal space for some time.
Yesterday I was finally able to try it with my cab. Certainly a different vibe than just the preamp. I like it, now I get why everyone is so keen on having the sound of an SVT breaking up.
