If I didn't own a Roland Micro Cube Bass RX, I'd be more driven to upgrade, but that Roland is good enough for my occasional needs to play at low volumes without AC. (Don't construe this into me saying the X4 and the Micro Cube are similar in sound. Similar in use cases, yes, but not sound.)

I made a mistake in my previous reply - I would have gone for the X4-C over the X4 (had it been available). Understood about the Roland MC Bass (I have a guitar MC), I looked at those but never pulled the trigger and they don't seem to be the same since Boss took over. I also looked into a battery source, such the Jackery, but simply don't have the "need" for that right now. Would be fun to have the option to just grab & go, but can probably live without it. ;)

Funny thing for me, most of the time I'm playing the MC on battery, there's an outlet nearby. I just love the ease of turning the thing on and playing and not having cords everywhere. It is rather liberating.

So, if I had the choice between X4 and X4C, it would be a no-brainer for me, just because I love the options.

OK, I'm going to modify my bag recommendation based on my having laid hands on a PJB carry bag for the Double Four Plus, and assuming that the X4 Carry bag is the same, but smaller. I'm REALLY impressed with the quality of the PJB bag.

Arriba vs PJB bag for your X4/X4C

Arriba
Pros: price ($3-10 less), more space for other stuff in main compartment and front pocket
Cons: less padding, less sturdy, no shoulder strap

PJB
Pros: perfect fit for the X4/X4C, super sturdy, thick padding, custom fit to X4/C metal swivels and padded adjustable shoulder strap
Cons: price ($3-10 more), minimal space in main compartment and front pocket

I'm sorta geeky when it comes to carry bags for equipment, but I think I'll stick with the Arriba, and the extra space. Plus, now that I have the D4+, I suspect the X4 will be permanently located in my office. If I'm wanting a small amp to go with me somewhere, it will be the D4+ 99.9% of the time.

If you're lucky like I was with my D4+, you'll find a bundle with the amp and carry bag included.

I should doing that, and more, shortly as part of my "Entry Level Bass Combo Shootout" for Bass Gear Magazine. It's a bit of an undertaking, as I have nearly 20 different combos to get through, but the new X4C is one of them, as is the Boss Dual Cube Bass LX. :thumbsup:

Also, FWIW, here is a link to my original X4 review. I ended up buying the X4 after the review, and my son currently has it. He is out of state doing an 8-month coop for college, and he wanted to pick up electric guitar while he was out there, so he's using the X4 to stream music, play along on guitar, and listen to it all via headphones (so he doesn't upset the neighbors). What a versatile little amp!

Yup, my X4 gets daily use in my office as my computer speaker (and bass amp for occasional noodling).

Will you have a D4+ for your Shootout?

You need a D4+ (Rumor has it they'll be available in July)

Here's what a D4+ has over a D4:
  • 20W more power
  • Bluetooth
  • Adjustable Line Out
  • A universal DC input (USB-C 20V as opposed to the laptop power in plug)
  • AC input (no more laptop adapter to lose, if you lose the AC cable, you can use any of the standard cables you have)
So much better than a D4.

Do you know if it comes with a price increase? Our Shootout caps out at $500 (three ranges: under $150, $150 to $300, and $300 to $500).

OMG - Thanks so much. I will Wait for the Upgraded Model. I Hate making a purchase and something New & significantly Better is released immediately afterwards.
