NAD: Sunn 2000S (and using multiple cabs question)

thanks for all the awesome comments guys, its definitely fun finding all this stuff and building a wall of doom haha!

Mmmmmm. Dig it. Does the cab have D or K-140s?

Where'd you find that thing hiding? It's beautifully clean. Get a chance to crank it all the way up yet? It's awesome getting all Felix Pappalardi and moving stuff around the house.

it was brought in to a used music store by a guy whos had it since day one. he supposedly has thought about selling it to this store a few times but never pulled the trigger, finally he did. i think he had a 200S with a matching cab but that was already gone before i even saw this guy. like i said earlier, it came with the original leather covers which i thought was almost as cool as the rig itself!

i honestly dont know what speakers are in it, i just know its a 215 and it came with the 2000S, so whatever was factory for the 2000S head in terms of the cab, its this guy. the 2000S is the one with the bass boost, my tech is pulling out the 2 prong and giving me a grounded one, i asked him to check the transformers to help me get an approximate date for this guy.

often there's still a sticker on the chassis with the build/test date on it. the pots will also have date codes on them. my 2000S is a '71 and is SS rectified (which is actually my favorite version), but all 2000S's are great heads.

Well, if it's factory stock, it's got the D140s. I don't have any experience with that model, just the K's, but I'd just be careful not to push them too hard, since I think they're only 50 or 60w speakers (maybe 75w?), and the 2000s put out a LOT of volume and low.

As for the year, like John said, they have a sticker somewhere on the chassis. Is yours SS rectified? If so, it's probably going to be a 70 or later (there are examples of '72 labeled 2000s instead of the 350B designation). If it has tube rectifiers, that would place it as a '69 (tube recs with bass boost). Of course, there's overlap on years, that's just sort of a rough way to date. Mine is most likely a '69, though it very well could be a early 70, and they were just using up tube rec versions.

What tubes are in yours? Mine has Tung-Sol 6550s and Mullard GZ54s
