NAD: TC Electronics BH250

BG series amps do tend to get buried in spite of their power...they could benefit from a beefier midrange voicing. The ones I've encountered, including mine, are a bit on the dull and boomy sounding side of the fence. I roll lows off a bit to compensate.

Picked up a used BH250 on Saturday that is just like new. I was considering getting a Café Walter headphone amp, but saw this for about the same price and figured what the heck.

How is it as a headphone amp? Does the aux in preserve the original source or does it "sum to mono" like so many of the heads out there? I'm using my Ampeg head right now that has a great headphone amp and a pure passthrough aux in, but had been looking at the BH250 to mix it up since it seems like it would be a better practice tool with built in tuner, toneprints and speaker emulator on the headphone amp. I'm always looking for better ways to make practice feel like I'm sitting in a real studio under cans. Would be great to get your impression since you're using it exactly how I plan to. Thanks!

Cool. Appreciate that. Other heads like the GK MB-200 completely ruin the input signal so the music source sounds dead. The Ampeg seems to use a quality hp amp to maintain the original fidelity and actually amplify the source so you really can hear the details. To me it makes a difference in learning tunes and also prevents ear fatigue.

NAD for me! Just got my BH250 and I'm stoked on it. Hooked it up to my 2 x Hartke XL210 cabs and away we went. Sounds great and I haven't even messed with the EQ or any TonePrint stuff yet either. So far it's a winner. I'll have more to say after playing it for a while and jamming with a few people. =)

Just loaded up my first TonePrint and it worked perfectly with my cell phone (android). At first I thought I'd have to have an iPhone to use it based on all the videos but that's not true. I got the Duff McKagan chorus and it sounds great. Since they're free, I'll try out all the other ones I'm interested in. =)

I'm strongly considering one of these, as a backup - and as a second head for a Rickenbacker to use the Ricosound option. Thought this would be perfect with my 2X15 setup, going with a separate head for each 15, and throwing some distortion (or other effect) on the TC head. I was actually getting quite excited about this as I thought it would be awesome to be able to dial in the effect on the amphead... but then...

I did a search for reviews, and got slammed with classifieds. Tons of them marked "sold" which led me to believe this head looks great on paper - not so much in real life. Nobody is reviewing them, just buying them and then selling them :). Which leads me to believe nobody WANTS to review them, or they wouldn't be able to sell them.

Do I want one of these? Why or why not? And will it have any power if I run it at 4 ohms with 2X15s?
