Name a bassist that everyone likes.

+1000. I can't believe it took 5 pages for Leland to get mentioned. A quiet gentleman and monster player.

Ditto to this.. Geeze.. play his stuff.. you show a photo of him.. then show one of James Taylor... then an interview.

He gets cool freak factor, kindess and pocket points.

Timmy

PS - Tim Landers may be the closest .. who can trash John Tesh's side dude.

Geddy (even if you dont like Rush, most people like his bass playing)

Being a Rush fan myself, I can understand why some people don't like his high-pitched voice, but when it comes to what he sings and plays at the same time... you have to admit he's a great performer. You don't see that independence level very often... and don' forget he also plays keyboards.

yes yes yes

You mean this cat?

I thought his name was just Floyd? I guess I learn something new everyday...Sgt Floyd Pepper!

Jaco was cool, but if you die because of drugs/alchohol, I don't like you. lol

I hope you're kidding.

He died because he was murdered. He was murdered partially because he was intoxicated, yes, but he was intoxicated because he had severe mental problems that were never properly treated. I'm not sure I understand how anyone could hold that against him.

On topic, James Jamerson is first in my mind, Bob Babbitt, Will Lee, George Porter Jr., Tony Levin, John Deacon, and others that I've surely forgotten.

+1!
Also don't understand neatobasman is so weirded out by the "drugs/alcholol", and yet Laughs out Loud over the situation....:rollno:

I don't think this is possible here.......well may be with a lot of convincing and clips.

There are too many people from differents styles and areas here. But us, older bass players had the chance to hear and live the evolution of bass playing and technology and I think this is something missing from the youngers bass fellows. Nothing offensing here, just the reality and this is why some names will come up and won't ring a bell to many of you.

But I can assure you that if a bass player is named here and don't know him ,I'll do a search on him ;-) I suggest to some people to do the same with the olders cats as well,

Peace,

Sly
