Right before the "big" guitar solo it breaks down to just bass and drums doing a very simple riff. It blew me away. Within a week I had my first bass and within another week I was in my first band.
That was 1975.

Probably "Chameleon," the Maynard Ferguson recording. It really got me to start listening for the bass in other music.

Reach For It bass solo by Byron Miller. I was SOLD on bass from then on. Never heard a tone like that. props to Jim Williams for making Byron's preamp for his Precision. I quickly switched from drums to bass and never looked back 
Understand the 80s was a scary period for many bass players (lots of synth bass out there) But there were still some high points, like INXS "What you need" love that line.
