Double Bass Name that endpin!

Can anyone name this double bass endpin and where I can order more rubber stoppers from the UK?

You probably can talk to a luthier and they can order them. They can be hard to come by. If you find them buy several since they don't last long, or you could just sharpen that tip to a point. If you could afford it it would be nice to replace that endpin

I had one on an old bass that I sold, so unfortunately I can’t give measurements. I bought a set of rubber chair legs from the hardware store and shimmed the tip so it would fit. Pretty sure I used gorilla tape to wrap around the end. Worked for a long time.

Some people prefer wooden endpins due to a possible contribution to tone; I wouldn't be too quick to replace it unless you know you'd prefer something different.

If it were me, I'd just remove the metal crown completely and put a black rubber cane/crutch foot on it. They come in a number of inside diameters and they last a long time.

My current bass has a very similar one. I've found that some cello endpin tips fit, but wear out quickly. I prefer this one made by Wolf:

These have been lasting about a year for me, so you shouldn't have to replace it too frequently. The only issue I've had is that you need to keep the set screw tight, or it will fall off.

That is the one with the brass disk at the screw which falls out of the endpin is removed. 5/8” diameter.

Timpsons sell rubber walking stick ends with metal ring reinforcements so they last way longer. Go into any branch and they'll have a box of different sizes

I have the same endpin, wood 5/8" diam. It doesn't slide completely out so I can't easily replace it. I'd like it to be an inch or 2 longer, and I need a rubber end for it. Unfortunately the endpin ball from Gollihur (mentioned above) won't work for this diameter endpin. Perhaps I can screw in a chunk of dowel to extend the length and take Don Hergert's advice and put on a rubber cane/crutch foot. In case that doesn't work, what is the best way to remove this endpin?

Your pin probably had a bolt or something on the inside end so it doesn’t fall out and get lost.

Use some "Lock-Tite" to lock the threads, that should help keep them from vibrating loose!

Unfortunately the endpin ball from Gollihur (mentioned above) won't work for this diameter endpin.

I think it should - there's enough of the thinner diameter at the bottom that it should fit, if that diameter is under 10mm.

Thanks Mark, that's fantastic. I was thinking it had to go onto the thicker wood diameter. And the rubber ball at the bottom should give me some extra length.
