name that fuzz

could anyone tell me what kind of fuzz can get this smooth? all the soundclips ive heard of different boxes even w/ low gain are not nearly this smooth

First, what is that clip?

To me, it sounds like a gated synth. From that clip, I'm hesistant to believe that is a bass at all.

Edit: I found out who it was. Listening to the rest of song, it sounds more like bass.

I would say a Depth Charge would get you in the ballpark.

The gated fuzzes I know of are the Brown Dog and the Wooly Mammoth. I'm guessing that might be a Brown Dog in that cut. I've heard smoother fuzzes, like Fuzz Face clones and the fuzz in the Disnortion, but they aren't gated (unless you use a separate gate unit).

If you dig that sound, then you know what a gated fuzz is!

In this context, "gating" is when the start and finish of each note chops off suddenly instead of fading away.

I doubt its the brown dog - it sounds nothing like that. If you google it, maybe you'll think the same as me - they have samples on their website. However the gate doesn't need to be built into the fuzz - you could just have Bass > Fuzz > Gate > Amp and achieve the same thing.

so recently i have been getting more into pedals again and i really want a fuzz like this again. i have never heard another fuzz like this so maybe now after 2 years someone can tell me what this is.

whatever it was, i dont think its a fuzz, i think its some kind of synth. or atleast, its a fuzz with some kind of filter it sounds like. whatever it is, it sounds very high quality.

ive tried the brown dog and wolly mammoth. it really could be the brown dog, but its definately not a mammoth.
