Looks like walnut to me. Those electronics are a thing of my nightmares though. Whoever wired that up should br ashamed. You are allowed to cut the wires I've seen it done. There's like 14 extra feet of wiring in that cavity.
 
The stain certainly looks like walnut. However, the shot of the unstained area in the control cavity shows a lighter color with a pinkish cast. Could be white oak. But, there are so many possibilities that it is truly hard to be certain. But, that lighter pinkish area that is not stained looks zero like walnut.
 
Looks like ash, it's def stained whatever it is the blotches and dark lines in the control cavity give it away. Look at how the end grain in the cavity is much darker pretty common with stain. Maple neck rosewood board.

Ugly job, but with 5 pots and 3 switches it isn't a lightweight redo job either. I would put this in the "if it ain't broke" category.
