Naming your bass

Did you give your bass a name? I’ve never named an instrument before but my new Eko 995 has become Betty and I don’t know why.
MORE Like Nick names, something funny or after a big star of the time ( agelina, lindsay& salma) just for fun, My ex GF & band mates loved to know their names! almost peer pressure if one didnt have a name! I would think of something on the spot just to appease them, there fore, Hot stars of the day! I guess it was easier for them to ID and request,"bring Rita next week", than bring that red bass. whatever. My new recently new rebuild#! doesn't have a Name yet, so My GF wants me to name it after her. Ugh!

Because he told you to and you didn't want to put you life in your own hands.

Good call.

Hah! ruined Betty for me!
I once read a book(exGFs cat book) which stated if you discover the Real/true name of something/somebody it has to do your bidding thats why cats dont mind you when you call them! You have to get their True name! so I try in vain to Name my basses! hopefully after Time it will let me know & I'll be able to play it proficiently!

So I had an Alembic Spoiler Five, rarely packaged in a full Series-shape body/neck, in long scale. A big, long bass, it was almost long distance to play at the nut even for me, and I wear a 44 Long jacket. You can imagine how big the case was. In see-through red tint.

So my sister and brother-in-law came to town and I showed it to them, and he says, 'wow, that's a big red bass'.

And so it was.

I never give inanimate objects human names, my names are based on the instrument; yellow jazz, Hofnelele, SG, walnut acoustic, PigNose, Narwhalele, green T-bird, purple Ibanez, white Ibanez, Les Paul teal, black ESP Jr., Ric walnut skunk, grey and pearl, Brian May mini, tortoise...

we used to call Ma "Hickory" on account of the wooden leg Pa made for her.
When folks would ask about the origin of the name, they would inevitably suggest that Ma
would be much more comfortable hauling around a leg made of less dense wood. But Pa would just laugh, and say,
well, that's what I had to work with on the day, she'll manage, a heavy leg builds character.

Never named no guitars tho

Ive been calling my #1 P " Blondie" for 40 years.
For you sticklers, yes yes, I know its a Natural finish, not what Fender calls
" Blonde ". But its sorta yellow, so I christened it " Blondie" and that was that.
Over the years, I became so identified with that one instrument, that on the rare occasions I showed up to gigs with some other bass, people would ask..
" Where's Blondie?"....
