NAMM Photos

Here’s something I want to look into more. You feed it your bass and it learns. You can then use the device to simulate your bass as a different bass. I.E. you play a jazz bass but you make it sound like a stingray. You and also use it to simulate canvas and amps and pedals.

Thanks scubaduba, I would really like to know if this can do a decent simulation of an upright since they show an upright in the computer screen shot. Any chance you are going to test this?

Mann! I get tired of Namm just by looking at the photos. Its a huge guitar center, but louder =& more crowded, yeah its cool seeing the New stuff& the ocassional star. but... No one will talk to you unless your wearing a "buyer" badge. you'll get no love at all wearing a regular name tag. only if they're really bored or nobody is in their booth. Once i was talking to a presenter/sales guy, & during our conversation he glances at my badge, mid sentence he just leaves! felt like a flat chested girl at a frat party! Don't get me wrong its the place to be if you're in the market for some new gear, but you'll quickly get tired of it.(remember Gibson skippiing the show a few years back?I didn't blame them)
I remember standing in a huge disney like line just to get into the Gibson & fender Rooms . Only to be ignored & annoyed. I felt like I walked the entire mall at Xmas time. I was exhausted!!Sorry to rain on your parade, but that was my experience.I always balk when asked if i wanna go this year. sorry again

Probably not the thread for it, but an interesting perspective.

Im not sure i could handle all the noodling/slapping eh.

I went yesterday with an exhibitor guest badge (my son works at Taylor Guitars) and didn't notice that at all. I had nice conversations with Carey Nordstrand, Roger Sadowsky, folks from the Bergantino and Devon Basses, Rick Turner, et al. Mainly just to say "thank you" for designing and making such useful and inspirational gear. I also got to demo a BackBeat which was very helpful in making a purchase decision. I suppose it helped that it was Sunday afternoon and most of the crowds had cleared out!

This.

I hate slapping so much, damn it. I really hate it, it gets in my nerves. And it was the youtube videos of "demos" that did it. It's always the same line, octaves and pentatonic noodling, such poor taste.

With all due respect, the show is not really meant to be for you, although I think you might find that many smaller booths would be happy to interact more genuinely. I've gone several times on Visitor(Guest) or Associate badges and I wouldn't have wanted to bother Fender or Ampeg or Martin level sales guys with casual questions, especially since I had no intention of buying a single unit from any of them, much less a few hundred. On the flip side, this year I had a red (booth demonstrator/exhibitor) badge, and basically never stopped talking to people for 3 1/2 days. Damned if you do...

Then it makes no sense that they let so many “civilians” attend. Not saying you’re wrong but I am pretty sceptical.

It's a substantial perk for the exhibitors and buyers to be able to comp "their people" into the show. And it builds buzz on the show floor in the "music as fashion show" sense, IMO and IME. Also, as brick and mortar shops become increasingly rare, "civilians" drive a lot of free or nearly free social media advertising, which the more savvy exhibitors probably realize makes treating everyone well a pretty good idea.

Was Marco Basses @Namm this year?
Please post pics if so, please?

Yep, I was working in the Marco booth actually. There was at least one post from @scubaduba with a few pics (thanks Chris), but I'm pretty sure that @wintremute will put up more soon. We had lots of video bloggers for the usual suspects come by too. Thanks for asking, and please PM me if you want to go deeper. I have nothing to do with sales and marketing, but I know a guy!
