NAMM: Traynor Big Block BB115 Combo Amp!

Getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these next week. Going to retire my TV15. Does anyone have one of these BB amps yet, gigged one, or have any review? It is not easy to find any info. Lomax Bass has a, "mini review", but nothing on the tube of u's, or anywhere that I can find. Thanks.

Get the Traynor 500 head and a cabinet, much better quality and sound than the Rumble. Or be patient, I can’t believe the Big Block combo won’t materialize.
It's materialized, it's just hard to find any info from players using it. And for the price of it, I want to see more. You'd think Traynor would have a big splash on youtube or something, but crickets so far.

They're rolling out slowly because the manufacturing team wants to ensure there aren't any issues. We've got another 30 units waiting to released into the wild. Not sure when the next run is but it should be more significant than this first run.

I'm not sure why the lack-luster release (no fireworks or champagne popping) but that's how the sales team decided to go.

I suggest you message the sales team directly and with social media (FB/Tw etc.) and it might start the fire.

For the interested, I just got my bb115 after more than 1 year of delays. They've been telling "next month" or even "next week" since August 2021, I was on the verge of cancelling my order, but now I'm glad I didn't.

That thing sounds absolutely awesome, super clear and punchy. By far the best sounding amp I've played on. If I didn't know it was impossible, I'd swear that amp makes me play better. For sure it makes me want to spend more time playing!

I just got it. Considerably louder than the Small Blocks, even taking into account size and power differences. It shouldn’t be much different from the SB115 but it is.

The tone is also darker and warmer than the SBs, but the EQ might have wider ranges, just turning down Low Expander from noon (mid-point) a bit can bring back sharp edgy highs and noises.

The dark warm tone is nevertheless articulate and punchy, more than the SBs I would say.

Unusually wide and soft rubber feet.

I saw one in the store last week. Surprisingly compact yea! I think my sb115 got a bad batch of wood cause it feels like the same weight as the bb115.

Also turn that low expander all the way off. It's a scoop and low boost control. You get the natural sound with it as 0 I believe.

You're correct
re: the Low Expander. I personally prefer to have it off but know quite a few people who feel it helps them dial in their tone for the 'room.'

It's loud, very loud. Be careful when using extension cabs which unleash the full potential... the limiter is your friend LOL

The SB115 should be much lighter, 30lbs versus 45 lbs.

On the SBs I usually keep Low Expander at noon mid-point. Off is a bit bright and thin. The BB Low Expander seems more sensitive with wider range, at noon my precision bass starts to sound like a heavy-footed bass drum.

I find the Low Expander quite versatile, you’re reminding me to get back to experimenting with it.

What is a Thick padded double strap?

The BB115 double strap (faux?) leather handle, and the SB115 single rubber strap handle.
