NAMM: Traynor Big Block BB115 Combo Amp!

Mmmm, loud.

Would you know why this has been (and still is) continuously postponed for 2 years?

I think the Traynor 400W TC115NEO cab is a good match for the BB115. Any opinions?

COVID delays, design delays, component delays, compliance testing took ages.

Hello @GrapeBass

Just curious if the bb115 has the same speaker as the neo 115?

Also noticed in the manual it says the speaker out is 650 watts. Is that a typo, or program power rating maybe?

Thanks.

I don't think so. The plant's on holidays at the moment so I can't check, sorry.

I will truly never understand the "rat fur" hate.

Then again, I got into bass in the early 1990's were rat fur was pretty common for both bass and pro audio, so...

I understand the rat fur advantage, from the manufacturer point of view... but from mine, I just think it looks cheaper, not as 'boutique' or 'valuable' as tolex, and especially gets messy and dirty in no time. I take GREAT care of my gear, so having a more fragile tolex finish is no problem for me, even on the long run. Personal preference...

Promises, promises . . .
Promises, promises . . .

They’re definitely in production.

I noticed the huge price increase too, again (second time since they announced the amp and it's not even released yet). I'm now officially out.

Too bad; I liked the general idea...

Yea the ~$170-$180 price increase on the older SB110, SB112, and SB115 models is really noticeable (justified or not due to higher production costs) now that they're up against the newer Ampeg Rocket Bass line etc.

At least the BB115 being a brand new model makes the $400 increase before release more justified-ish, as this has an effects loop and an extension cabinet option with a hefty 400watts/800watts.

The SB112 with a single 12" @ 200watts plus the tweeter for now-$770 CAN with no effects loop or extension option is a tough sell to me. And I'm trying to buy Canadian where I'm able to in a covid-recovering economy...(Shrug)

The upside/downside depending if you are buying or selling is that Traynor gear IME doesn't really hold value once it hits Kijiji/CL. I picked up the SB115 years ago for $200 used. We have abused that thing and it's still chugging along (the DI cuts in and out but we typically mic the amp these days). For the updated asking prices I wouldn't consider them either. That said everything is going crazy. I just picked up a Zildjian ride last week, actually the exact same one I returned a year prior (was really missing it lately). The price was up $80. I did some research and it seems all mid tier Zildjian cymbals went up around $80, their higher end stuff even more so. I guess it's just a sign of the times. Everything going up except our wages :)

I am also trying my best to support Canadian made gear as much as possible. If I really want something from Traynor I'll always wait until 0% Traynor month or just rent a couple of times if I'm in a bind.
