Nate Mendel P Bass or an alternative?

I have a RW Jazz that I really like. I think the Nitro finish does make a difference.

StrangerDanger—so that drops your out-of-pocket to around three-fitty? And you get your pick of what your GC connection can pull in?

You'd be crazy to pass that up!

I don't have a particular axe to grind with the relic finishes. I kinda dig the edge sand through. One thing kinda weird is that some of the nicks are physical, they actually took chunks out of the finish. But the wear through to the wood is in the color, and the clear is overtop of it. So it's perfectly smooth and feels off.

Anyway, there is actually very little relic on this bass. Still getting used to mine (jazz guy usually) and I wanna use it live, see how it sits in the mix.

Here's mine after a make over. Mine was a little on the heavy side. Need to put it back one the scale and see where I'm at, now.

The balance is fine. No need for tuner change on mine

I much prefer the vintage, oversized plates on the machine heads used on these basses. On mine, the plate on the G string machine head is visible from the front. This sounds like a QC problem, and maybe it is, but it is a period-correct QC problem, IME.

I have about twenty-eight basses, and only my own stubbornness is keeping my Mendel P from being my #1. I insist on putting a fiver in my #1 gigging spot, although my Mendel P is seeing pretty close to half of my stage time. The slightly narrower neck may not look like much on paper, but when you combine it with the tight-radius fingerboard, this neck becomes almost exactly what I would do with a custom four-string build.
