I know that Nathan swears mostly by his Yamaha basses for many years but what did he play back in the early 80s? He has some nice lines from Lionel Richie amongst others from that era, but they almost sounded Pbassish. Some Yamahas can replicate a P sound for sure. Also, the lines I heard didnt include the low B, doesnt mean it wasnt a five. Anyone know?

I became aware of Nathan in the mid '80s when I started playing bass. I recall a magazine from the era called "Music & Sound Output" that had a "hot young bassists" feature in one issue, IIRC Nathan, John Patitucci, Pino Palladino and David Hungate were a few who went on to have lasting impact. I think Nathan helped develop the original Yamaha BB5000 (he was in Guitar Player ads for it) so he probably used Yamaha 4s before that but I'm not sure. Nathan also played D'Addario XL Reds copper strings for a while back then.
