Nbd, 05 jazz. But wait! What's this hole?

Scored a MIM fender Jazz. It has not been used to it's full potential in years.
I brought it home and gave it a bath. When I took off the pick guard I saw this whole that was obviously made during production. Now this is my first Jazz in my adult life.
Is this common?
I have some pictures of it here,
Need to change the pic guard to a different color tho...
Thoughts anyone?

... 'nice' is extremely subjective

Seeing as this if your 'first Jazz in your adult life,' have you played it with the pups that are in it enough to see if they might already be 'nice'? ... with some of the bazillion string choices I have used, the ceramic magnet set of 58294/5 that are currently in there really brings them to life ... I mate a set of those with an very old set of Dean Markley flats ... and it is very ... nice!

In this one .... no 'hole' either !!
