When you randomly scroll through Facebook marketplace and you find a '76 Azureglo 4001 5 minutes away, you have no other choice but to snag it! A really great 4001 that has been sitting since 1994 when it was purchased at a Detroit guitar show. Super thin neck and low action. Turned out to be all original as well. How about that purple case?!

Congrats!!! Had some Ricks before but my 77 4001 is the only I kept. Completely different than recent 4003... The thin neck makes it so comfy and with Chromes on it you can get aggressive with the bridge pickup and very mellow with the neck pup... Absolute joy to play and what a sound! Enjoy it!

I had one just like that got stolen in 1993. Used insurance money to buy a 4003 and it just wasn't the same, thicker neck, didn't have same vibe. Still miss that 4001. That said, I bought it because I was totally on a Joy Division kick and didn't know Hook played a Hondo copy live and recorded with a Yamaha.

Are the bindings white, cream or aged ? Can't tell from the photos.
But that fingerboard color in contrast to the blue - phew, that's beautiful.

They come from the factory in a bright white, of course over time, some of them tend to age a bit. Thank you!

Congrats! I have a 76 Azureglow 4001 myself (bought it in 1980). And it's only been gigged with about 3 years total. My first "name brand" bass. Over time, I've done the Tim Allen thing and added more power. Killed the resale value - but it's unique, and I don't plan on ever parting with it. A 4001 on steroids. I like it even more now than I originally did, despite the extra weight. Mine has the blue plushness inside the case.

I've never seen it, bar the stills. I remember seeing this pic back in my FB days and thought it was a 'Ziggy' character, for the clothing is very redolent of the early Ziggy era.

In this pic, the bass is more detailed and has a trem arm.
