NBD 1978 Fender Precision Bass

Thank you I looked at two mocha's love that color but they were heavily modded and out of my budget could you post a picture of your bass that looks sweet.

I'll work on getting a decent pic. The one in my avatar photo is a '75 with an A (Jazz width) neck, which I got back in '03. The one I picked up recently is a '77 with a regular B neck. Both are mocha, though the '75 is redder/darker and the '77 is more of an actual mocha color.

Funny, I was looking for a sunburst, but at the time all those I found were either non-original or out of my budget. :) So I found a decent deal on a mocha and went for it. These two look similar, but they feel different.

Can I ask what is the size of your A neck is it 1 1/2 or 1 7/16?

Hey brother good to hear from you I hope you're doing well wow that bass is stunning and I don't know about neck profiles but that's exactly what my neck feels like not a traditional P width at all was the A profile available in 78'?

I was told my 78 Fretless was "A" width. That was after I measured it and posted the width here, so take that for what it's worth. I don't remember what the measurement was, but it's about the same as my Jazz, but the neck it a bit deeper, nothing that bugs me though.

Nice P, congrats! I use D'Addario balanced tension medium gauge 50/120 nickel round-wounds on my '66 P. Fat strings perfect for a wide neck. They deliver a nice tonal range - phat & plunky when needed and the right amount of definition with some treble (but not clanky) - especially through a warm sounding amp.

I think that's a decent price considering the exceptional condition, and verification. Consider this, I paid $800 for my 78 almost two years ago.

But......it's fretless, brass nut, BAII bridge, non-orig pick guard, non-orig (not really well fitting) case, natural with a fair bit of wear, no bridge cover and no idea if the pup cover is orig.

In other words, a lot of things bringing the price down. It's an exctional player though, really resonant, and not heavy for a 70s P at about 9 lbs.

Thanks JMac it wasn't too much more than a new American Standard.

A 1978 P was the first "good" bass I ever owned, I bought it new and still have it for sentimental reasons. It was a real springboard for me. I have no complaints.

Cannot go wrong with a 78, at all.
