I may need to get myself an L-2000. What I really want is the rare passive version but I doubt that will ever happen.

The OP makes a good point - why are they not making the 1K right now! For this one I only use flats - the board is in great shape, and there are not too many of these around ('81 lefty fretless mahogany/ebony):

Pure economics why they quit making them. Everyone wanted the active, two pickup L2000 for not hardly any more money.
This apparently still holds true, as the limited run of L1000 reissues took a looooong time to sell out...and I think there may still be one or two of the 20 or so they made left.
So, not much demand.

Very nice Bass - looks just like the one I had back in the early 80's. The neck on mine was pooched so I sold it and bought a 66 P-Bass - sold that one too. Still would love to have one for nostalgic reasons.
I think there are 6 left listed for sale out there.
For me I would like a more visually accurate model. The headstock is fine but I prefer front mounted electronics. I don't hate the rear mounted but prefer the front on the single pickup model.
As it stands I may try to pick up one of the limited models but it would be a no-brainer with the chrome control panel.
I have a black 81 g and l l1000 was thinking about getting rid of it i have lupus and its just to heavy to play anymore but man do i love the sound that comes from that thing
Just got this today. It was a day late due to the extreme snowy weather here in the northeast.
My first L-1000 and after a quick practice session with it I am VERY impressed. It is a shame these never went anywhere and got discontinued. (Except for the current limited edition version)
Tobacco Burst hog body with an ebony fretboard. Great condition! Got it from a fellow TB member which is always my favorite way to acquire a new bass.
These DR Black Beauty strings have got to go through.

I am not sure if I have ever seen one in black. G&L SB's but no L-1000's.
