That's what it sounds like.I would be ok with that, I think mine just isn't working at all
Shield it up and probably replace that pot. It sounds better in a mix than it does solo, IMO.

The volume mod helps the tone control at different levels of volume it's more for tone though you get more output too. It's a confusing name in that regard.the volume works fine
?
I believe the Patriot came with a .022 ceramic disc capacitor (the brown disc that was in yours).ok, took it by guitar center
they fixed it no charge (except for the new set of chromes I stuck on it)
the tone cap was blasted
it was a .22 (decimals might be wrong)
and great tech guy changed it to .1 (again, the number might be off--he said this cap was more the standard these days on like a precision----it was a much much bigger cap in physical size.
It's just because Peavey was making great necks at that time!one more thing
I didn't find a single deadspot anywhere
I noticed how much thicker the headstock is on the patriot vs my fenders
could this be why? not wanting [ to start a flame war
just wondering

I believe a Fender Precision comes with a .047 "orange drop" polyester film capacitor.
The .047 will cut off more high end and might also make your sound darker when the tone knob is fully counter clock-wise as well, depending on how the bass is wired.
A .1 will cut off more high end than a .047 and the .047 will cut off more high end than an .022he said he put in a .1 cap
I really like how it works
A .1 will cut off more high end than a .047 and the .047 will cut off more high end than an .022
Read this thread, it will give you a start.
Capacitor difference??
Here is something you can listen to.
Yes, for sure more treble cut than an .047 and way more than an .022I like it
the .1
that they put in
it provides some great variance
I really like it

I find mine is nicely balanced, but but feels light, and mahogany is premium wood IMO.turn the bass up just a bit on your amp
this thing lacks nothing on the bass end
also--I am not a weight weenie
but this thing is light---comparing to my fenders---it is much slimmer in the body
thicker in the neck---but I haven't experienced neck dive

The neck is so stable on mine, set it and forget it.
