All I can really say is wow. Fender has really stepped up their game IMHO. This bass is gorgeous. Plays like butter and light and well balanced. Best Fender HSC in 40 years. Can't wait to get home and play it.

+1, it would be nice if they could keep more of them in the 8 to 9 lbs range but yup, pretty much every 2012 AmStd I've played has been a tone monster that practically plays itself.

I love the whole Fender flavor - the history, the look, etc. - so I'm thrilled that Corona has been backing that iconic look with the sound and playability to match!

Got mine last year and loving it. I do have the GK3B pickup on it for using with the Roland V-Bass but also enjoy just playing it in the natural passive mode. This is the first Fender and passive bass I've had in over 25 years and recently also got a 1998 MIM Fender Jazz Fretless and loving it as well.

Congrats. This past December I bought a new 2009 AM STD Jazz bass. I don't know if the store had it hidden for a few years or what, but one day there it was. I honestly thought it was a 2012 model because there wasn't a scratch, dent or flaw anywhere on it. I was VERY surprised when I looked at the serial number and saw it was an '09 but that didn't matter. It's the finest playing 4 string bass I've ever found.

Last Febuary I bought my 2012 Am Stnd P-Bass V......love it.....easy to play.....sounds great.....fit and finish is excellent.

Fender is doing a great job with these American Standards.

You've got a looker there. I've never had the chance to try the modern Fender J's with the alder/maple combo. Bet it sounds tasty

Thanks folks. I am really impressed. I have a 99 American Standard Jazz that is one of my favorite basses. I have had a few late 90's and early 00's and have really loved that era but many of the American Series basses just seemed to lack something but from what I can tell the new American Standards are as solid if not more than the late 90's American Standards. This bass is just silly smooth. It plays really effortlessly and it is VERY light and very resonant. It has flats on it at the moment and this is my first time in 30 years of playing to have flats on a jazz bass. I dig them but I am still itching to throw some DR Hi Beams on it. Anyway I am super impressed with the new Fender American Standards.
