NBD: 2012 Squier Jazz V

I have probably had 4 of these CIC Affinity Jazz V’s, three black and one sunburst. They were all great in stock form (save for the pickups), and great mod platforms as already mentioned.
Pickups are USA Fender 5 sized (67/70 mm). You can replace the tuning machines with HipShot Ultralites (3/8” post) - drop-in replacement.
I still have the sunburst body ready for new pickups (with VM neck)

And a black one, also with VM neck, but modded to the utmost of mods…changing the pickups is an understatement here…

Inspirational!
Nice work.
Thanks for sharing the possibilities.

Thank you!
For full disclosure, the reason I have VM necks on those basses is this:
On the Sunburst one, I only bought the body from Stratosphere Parts for a fretless project, but wound up going with a Natural finish VM body (the one in my Avatar) and put the VM neck on the Sunburst body.
The black one…I wound up de-fretting that neck, and it was actually the best de-fret job I’ve ever done. It came out awesome. But I wound up selling the neck because I wanted an un-lined ebony fingerboard (again, the one in my Avatar). I wound up buying the 2nd VM neck also from Stratosphere.

The neck pocket on these is 72mm??

Fun fact I didn't know..
This appears to have a 2 way truss rod in it?
Or is my Bass super Gooched?
It finally set up perfect after Cheese's suggestion but I was doing some investigating when I had the neck off and it indeed will tension the neck both ways.

Anybody replaced the Pickups in one of these? I'd be interested to hear about what you chose.
Is there a pre-wired set?

That model is terrific.
I had a MIA Jazz 5 at the time and the Affinity had a better neck so I traded the MIA and bought American Jazz 5 pickups and also upgraded the Bridge pots and jack. This bass has more growl than my Warwick Thumb which is saying something. Never heard a bass purr like it before.

Also have an Alembic Essence 5 and prefer the neck on the affinity.

Greetings from the North,

Sgt Carter! Sgt Carter! SUHPRIZE! SUHPRIZE! This thang just growls and growls!

I ordered a Squire Affinity Jazz 5 from Sweetwater as an inexpensive solution for a Lite weight finished Jazz 5 body to replace the body on my 13 pound Vintage Modified J5 a couple of weeks ago. Upon unboxing I fully expected to just set about cannibalizing it. Well I plugged it in first and couldn't help playing John Paul Jone's bass line to Zep's Immigrant Song. Hot Dang! This thing is a one cheap date phenomena! HaHaHa. Quality wise it has no hope for passing for a MIA J5 but it sounds badass enough to keep it from getting parted out. This one's a keeper. So I picked up a slightly used Affinity J5 that weighed close to 8 pounds for its body to use for the VM J5 project.

That's a good point about the weight or lack thereof.
My affinity 5 is very light and lighter than my Jazz 4's. When I refinished it there were 6 pieces of scrap alder off cuts used to make the body but it is still once of my lightest basses and sounds absolutely awesome.

Does anyone know if a 5 screw direct replacement bridge (in Black) exists for the Affinity?
After pulling the trigger on the PU set, I think I'm going to go all in and make it what I want.
I know it won't reflect in resale. It didn't on any of the Harleys I have owned either:rollno:
