The message is that your old bass is really rather good.

I recently picked up this Peavey Sarzo model, looks like it's from 89, the year I first started playing bass. They really drew a lot from the Aria SB for this, but it's got a lot of it's own going on too.

Despite the artefacts of being played for years, it's clear to see it's a high-quality piece of gear. This is my first Peavey and I'm liking it a lot, particularly the neck shape. The flattened D sits very nicely in hand. The tuners have a really satisfying feel to them, too. It reeks of quality.

To my ears, it sounds like they went back to his old Sabre for the pickups, there's a real bang of MM in them 'buckers. Lots of low end on tap, though I wouldn't say it's the best 3-band EQ I've ever played. All in all, it's still phenomenal value for the money they go for.

So, yeah, good job Rudy. I doff my cap back in time in your direction

The Sarzo was one of the few Peavey sig basses I never owned, but I did play them a ton in the stores back in the day. They definitely are/were a quality bass. Enjoy!

Yep! The Sarzo is a GREAT bass. I had one for a while but I'm mainly a 5 string player so I moved it one, very reluctantly.

I picked up one of these 2 years ago and, like you, I am still amazed at the quality vs price point. These were top of the line in their day and deservedly so. I love mine and use it often - outstanding build, and really good tone. I agree that the 3-band isn't the best, but it still rocks!

Nice! Just out of curiosity, what's the weight like?

It's heavy, but not excessively so. Definitely a little heavier than average but it's not unmanageable. It balances nicely on a strap so it's not fatiguing to play for longer periods.

I have it's brother, strung BEAD. About the EQ...remember the preamp was designed in 1985 for the DynaBAss and voiced for the amps/speakers of the day. My main rigs are T-Max head with 210s or a Kilobass with period 410s and the EQ works well with them. With some modern amps/speakers the onboard EQ doesn't work as well and I use what's provided on the amp. It's my understanding the PUs were based on the T-40s. This one's on the heavy side, too.
