NBD: ...and it's an Ibanez!

I'm finally a proud owner of an Ibanez.

I've always wanted to get my hands on a 80's era Ibanez, like the blazers, roadster and musician. A friend of mine has a Musician and it's an amazing bass in looks, feel and sound.

Recently a deal came up to get a 81 Ibanez Roadster Fretless RS-840BK and I couldn't resist it.

It's such an amazing bass and it's in perfect conditions for a 37 years old bass. I love it!

I own that same bass fretted. It's actually the first and only bass that I've purchased brand new. This may sound like BS, but in all those years, I've never adjusted the truss rod or had any issues with the hardware. It's a great all around bass and my go to when I need to get back to ground zero with decent tone. Active was all the rage at the time and these passive basses were often over looked because of the neck through big brother Musicians series. It would take something really special to consider trading it.

Congrats.

Congrats on the find!!! I love those older Ibby's

I had these some time ago and miss them.

I still have the active/passive one like the one on the left in your pic from ‘81. It’s a rock solid instrument and it’ll still be going strong long after I’m gone that’s for sure. My AS200 guitar from ‘81 is also still going strong. I have nothing but respect for Ibanez who have made some great instruments at reasonable prices in a Fender/Gibson/Rickenbacker dominated world. They deserve more credit but it’s very hard to break through old well entrenched traditions.
