NBD - but no box!

Sometimes I think USPS/UPS/FedEx might treat a package that is badly wrapped better than one that is wrapped like Fort Knox.
I have received basses in gig bags with just the tag on the handle before. They were fine.
A cab I sent packed professionally at great expense arrived at the buyer all busted up.

I recently received a StingRay 4 exactly like this in the mail. Not a $2500 bass, but a $900 bass. It made it safely to me, but the temptation along the way must have been strong.
I am truly sickened and frustrated by that pack job and absolutely amazed that the bass arrived intact!!!!!!
Confession time- I once sold a bass and shipped it by wrapping plastic wrap around the hardshell case. I was surprised they even took it. Bass sized boxes are HARD to come by.
It's not that hard to make any size box you need by chopping and taping - I've gotten a lot of big old instruments that way. Though I do try to stash every box in decent shape I get up in the attic in case I need one.

It was super expensive to ship, so we (FedEx lady and I) wrapped the gig bag in a bunch of bubble wrapped and shipped it without a box. At the time and looking back on it, that seems really really dumb idea, but it got there with no problems, issues etc.
Would I do that again, never.

If you ever need boxes for shipping, go down to your local Italian restaurant. Cheese is heavy so it's normally delivered in nice strong boxes, and Italian restaurants use a lot of cheese. Not generally big enough to fit a bass without a bit of cut and stick, but perfect for amp heads, rack units etc. I've shipped a few things in mozzarella boxes packed out with newspaper and everything has arrived safely.
Then I would DEFINITELY send it back. The Fender logo was obviously put on the wrong way if your mirror corrected it...
...not to mention the Strat swap.

And as someone who also lives in "The Archduchy of DuPont", I can vouch for the weather report. It got down to nine degrees last night! :***:

Okay, true…it could be worse down here. But as someone who hails from much warmer climates (a bit more Southwestern), it all sucks! "Temperate", my a$$!!
But back to the topic on hand; Great lookin' bass Marley! I hope your love of it makes the stress and hassle all worth it.
i had several guitars and basses that sold over the past year or so. I found and ordered boxes that were specific to acoustic guitars, electric guitars and electric bass packed in lots of 5. They were far from free, but went a long way in enabling me to pack and ship in a professional manner.
I am sure that there are other companies, the one I used was ULINE.
Ha, you think that's bad, I had this sucker buy a Spector from me once, I shipped it to him wrapped in Glad Wrap with McDonalds cups stuck over the hor.......errr, um never mind...... hope he liked his bass

I had a Hamer 12 String Acoustic Bass shipped from Spain in the case with just some shipping paper around the middle to attach the shipping label. Arrived in perfect condition.
I think it's best to over pack the f*** out of it or don't at all. haha.

I bought a brand new RIC Snowglo 4004L from guy on eBay. He said he had a new set of strings he didn't want and asked if I could use them. I said sure. When I started to open the case, a weird white powder floated out. Turned out it wasn't powder at all. It was white paint. The guy rolled up the strings and laid them on top of the bass. The ends were cut and rolled around a post so while the bass was in transit, the string ends scratched the **** out of the top of the bass. It was a mess but eBay's dispute resolution center came through for me. Oh, the seller offered me a $100 refund if I kept it.
