Just received my new 89 MIJ bass...wrapped in brown paper?? I'm scared to take it out of the Gig bag. :***:

Suggestions on what to do? I'm waiting for it to warm up from the arctic cold.

Yes the dude was an idiot for not packing it into a box, but at least it's in a gigbag, so it has some layer of protection.
A friend of mine bought a Spector bass, and the seller only wrapped the bass in shrink wrap and paper and used McDonalds cups to cover the horns!

I bought a 10k IBM SCSI harddrive off Ebay years ago and the idiot seller shipped it loose in a Kleenex box (really). The drive was of course destroyed in shipping -- or perhaps before. It was like pulling teeth to get a refund (pre paypal days), and the moron actually charged me a restocking fee. That almost turned me off of Ebay forever. I told my daughter just yesterday to be prepared to constantly be disappointed by people...

Been there, and worse.

There's only one thing to do. After it warms up a bit, inspect for damage. Look closely for cracks at the headstock/neck area.

Sheesh! I just had one delivered, and they didn't even both to ring the bell, just left it in the snow outside the door! I only went out to look because the tracking page suddenly refreshed as green "Delivered". D'oh. No electronics in this one, stripped out, but still, waiting...

Its a poly finished bass I dont see the concept in waiting to open it. The only basses I have bought that have stated to do so is Fenders no other brand and this is only with nitro finished basses.

I had one shipped like that one time, but with even less padding outside the gig bag. The seller basically wrapped the bag in paper. The funny thing is that the UPS driver tore me a new one about it. "that is NOT how you ship something". I was like "dude, I didn't ship the damn thing, I'm the buyer ".

Even refunds through PayPal is a hassle. I had to return a bass not to long ago, got my refund through it. When it says "completed", its not. And even when it said "YOU GOT CASH!!", you still have to wait a week... So I can't even imagine what it was like before PayPal!

A carrier actually allowed the shipper to insure that?!? My local FedEx depot would have said "...no ****in' way, Mr. Unterzuber".

Edit: OTOH, a buddy shipped me a bass from Singapore. He sliced open a cardboard carton, wrapped it around the case like a sleeve on a Starbucks coffee cup (handle sticking out the top), and stuck $178 worth of Singapore postage stamps in the upper right hand corner. Made it to my house in Virginia in 5 days.
