Today, I asked my daughter if she wanted to ride with me while I went to a guitar shop to look at a particular bass. She asked me if she could bring her guitar and trade it in...

Bear in mind, her guitar was a pink Strat with Hello Kitty on it, which I got her when she was 7 or so. She's 12 now, and I think this is much more her style =0) Sorry for potato-quality photo.

She's been playing upright bass in school for 2 years or so, and they'll let her transition to electric next year or the year after, so I guess she got the bug early ;)

The bass is a Peavey Millennium BXP, looks like tobaccoburst over photo-quilt. She looked at all the basses they had and played a couple-few, deciding she loved that one. Watching her noodle, even very simply (she never really got into trying to play before the upright), and just light up, made me a little teary. The shop gave us a great trade deal, too, so, SOLD!

I can't wait for her to play way better than me.

Very cool I remember one time, my kid bringing his trumpet into my music room while I was listening to A Night In Tunisia when he was about 15. He started noodling around and had the head figured out in about 10 minutes. I was kind of stunned. He studied with Etta James' trumpet player, Tom Poole for a couple of years then announced he'd mastered the trumpet and quit playing. Tom said he was one of the best students he'd had in a long time. Hahaha teenagers!

I dunno what to tell
I'm divorced so I can spend with my only son just one every two weekend...

He's just 4 yo but he already got an Ibanez Mikro (22,2" poplar body two humbuckers guitar I put a pair of DiMarzio air classic on) and a Fender Modern Player 30" Jazz bass (with p/j config and an added Hipshot BT1 bass extender) just in case he would try a few leaps in performin' music

Of course I'd never force him to love music, to avoid any opposition, but it's a while since I discovered I can cry more often than I was used to:crying:

Cheers,
Wallace

That's so odd. Friend of my Dad has a son who, by about 16 or so, was a PHENOMENAL jazz guitarist - really mindblowing! - and a couple years later just decided 'nope, all done.' That sucks.

Way to go! Looks like she's got a rockin style already!

My son is 4. I found a $30 squire bullet at goodwill that I tune to an open chord for him to bash on. I'm really looking forward to the day we can buy HIS first instrument. Still not sure whether he'll be going for bass or guitar or something else.

Brother, you and me both. 99% of the time she's got her face buried in a screen with earbuds in; I'm going to cherish every second she spends playing music, with or without me.

Great story, Dave…seriously high "daaaaawwww!" factor at work.

I'm already looking forward to her YouTube debut where she makes us all look like a bunch of pikers! :bassist: :D
