NBD... caught off guard!

A few months ago, I visited Sweetwater and tried out a few basses. One of them was a Squier CV 50s P. I liked it but I was having a rough time getting comfortable with using that single coil pup as an anchor. I knew I would eventually get used to it but then I thought the neck was a bit to chunky for my small hands and short fingers. Anyhow, I talked myself out of it.

I guess I had spoken about my interest in that bass (a few months ago) and my wife took notice. I never really mentioned it at all after that.

And in the meantime I end up getting a Sterling Ray 34PB. Awesome bass and I love it.

Well, I open a gift from the wife this afternoon and there it is... a Squier CV 50s P in white blond. I've been playing it a couple hours this evening and I'm diggin' it! Going to put flats on it, get a nice wide padded strap, and dView attachment 4516803 o a proper set up. The action is a bit high right now but it still plays nicely. I got a pretty nice SKB gig bag to boot. My wife is cool. I appreciate her understanding my passion for music and the bass!

+1 to your wife. Mine gave me a new fender pBass a few years back, after I casually mentioned I had fun playing around with my friends squire. Now he plays guitar and I play bass in our friday night jam band. 4 decades of guitar playing, and now I realize I should have started on bass a long ago. It’s definitely helped my ear, pitch and rhythm. She gave me some great guitars over the years too. Here’s to great wives who support our music!

Over 3 decades of guitar playing before I converted! Been playing bass a little over 4 years and I have no interest in picking up a guitar!

I picked up one of these last year. Love the amber finish on the neck, and the narrow profile at the nut. I modded mine as a nod to my favorite bass player.

Just got the Squier CV '50s Precision, off brown truck, this morning. Packed well and in good shape after the trip. Checked it out, tuned it up,and every thing seems to be working. Tuned it up,sounds good through my Ampeg B2 combo. Will put it through its paces,at Church tonight. Really like the vintage tint,on the neck, and the white transparent finish,on the body. It has flat wound strings on there now, will see how it sounds, partial to roundwound myself. Previous owner changed

You're a lucky man. Remember, love your wife more than your bass.

Looks great! Congratulations! Would it be possible that you ask the previous owner where he/she ordered that pickguard? Thanks!

Are you sure the guard you ordered is going to fit your CV 50s P? When I went to order a pickguard for my Squier CV 70s P, Greasy Groove told me that a Fender P pickguard was not the same as a Squier. They wanted me to trace the pickguard from my bass and send them a template or just send them the pickguard so they could trace and then cut/drill holes.
