Red, but different reds. Mine is Fiesta Red. Box #009 is labeled CAR, which I presume is Candy Apple Red. I do like the looks of the blocks and binding. If I had it to do all over again, I might go for B&B and 70's spacing to make it a complete 70's package.

The OP was very quick to voice his disdain over something that has happened to pretty much every luithier in the business but now he's missing in action.

Yes I am. The basses are some really nice instruments.

I am waiting for a resolution and then I'll update. There really isn't much to say until then. Dan is doing his best to make things right.

not a company, it's a branded reselling of a typical off-shore bass with a buncha high dollar spec appointments thrown on and a buncha swag case candy.

What is a "typical off-shore" bass? There are some low end off-shore basses, there are some mid-range off-shore basses, and there are some really great off-shore basses. There really is no "typical" off-shore basses. Korea in particular makes some great basses.

This is disappointing to read. I was considering a D. Lakin Joe Osborn purchase later in the year.
I've shipped many instruments over the years...I was head of instrument shipping for Musician's
Supply, the precursor to Musician' Friend in the early eighties. I shipped many Taylor acoustics,
Ibanez electrics, keyboards, etc. There is no excuse for an instrument being mishandled, and
poorly shipped. Last December I privately sold my Pendulum SPS-1 preamp...it would have
survived a Shuttle launch or crash! In a past life I was in charge of mummifying Pharaohs.
And that is something you're not allowed to botch. Okay, that last part was fiction.
Really, getting the instrument safely and in new condition to the purchaser is important as any
step along the way from wood selection, finishing, setup...there are too many quality instruments
out there. I hope Mr. Lakin hires somewhere who takes their job seriously.

As far as I know, this was the only bass that was shipped that way, Dan already corrected his shipping process, so everybody else will be safe.

For the record Leo Fender wasn't a luthier nor was he a musician.

Dan's reputation in the industry is pretty stellar and he will continue to forge ahead no matter how many people who have never actually touched one of his basses may think of his business methods.

One would be surprised how many well known luthiers that have shipped a bass out to a customer and there was a problem and some of those basses cost two and three times what Dan's cost.

Dan has been shipping his basses out to customers and have more orders going out pretty soon and so far there has been only one complaint, wow let it go.

People stop acting like this incident is worthy of a deathly penalty hearing.

When a customer pays for their instrument they want exactly what they paid for but to act like mistakes can't happen is not kool at all.

Putting the one-time shipping issue aside, I really wonder what started all this disdain for new Fender copies on TB. I've seen it with the D Lakins, the new Carvins, and it seems like another brand that slips my mind. I guess G&L was the last company that is allowed to make one? After that, we've reached some sort of quota and no more are allowed?

I really need to stop buying basses, but if I were shopping, these look great.
