The 'actual evidence' is some scuffage due to the missing foam bag. That's it.

Lakin already said he'll make it right, just like everyone expects him to. Your perspective is skewed because you have no history with Lakin's products, or his CS. I think you're over-stating the importance of this single issue, despite it happening with Bass #1.

I see no reason to try to blow the issue out of proportion here. I doubt very much that we'll hear about too many Lakin foibles in the future. And not just because of the negative hype on this forum. If the basses are good (and the early reports indicate that they are), and Lakin does what he's always done re CS, players will buy them.

While I fully empathise with the OP's disappointment and frustration, I also realize that in the real world (as opposed to TB World) mistakes happen, even from the best of companies. And as long as things were rectified in a timely fashion I would be happy in the end, if it were me. This is what I expect will happen here.

+1

We all need to stop being little bitches back and forth to each other and just empathize with what is a less than stellar experience with one of our own bass brothers / sisters here. No one deserves this bunk, regardless of their worldview on the matter...but all of us know how bad it would suck if it happened to them.

Geez already. Put down yer e-cocks.

I feel sorry for Dan as he likely had a brainfart and forgot to rewrap the bass after checking it over after receiving it from Korea. $h!t happens, but for the sake of his new business, it better not happen very often. Especially on his first shipment of eagerly awaited basses in such a tough market segment.

Not having cases and/or gig bags available is a sign that a company is not ready to ship basses at all IMO. Especially $1300 Korean ones. These are not $129 SX/Squiers.

Not the place to say "I would rather spend $1300 on.....", but I was on the fence about buying a Lakin (also, he hasn't bothered to make a 5er from the pics I have seen) and now I won't be buying one. If QC becomes stellar in the future and his price for a Korean Lakin bass with a hard case doesn't continue to be over the current $1500US, I may consider it down the road. Incredibly hard to justify a bass like the OP's for the $$$ and $200+ on top of that for a case.

Just IMO.

For this price you can get a US Made G&L. Are these better than US made G&L's?

Amen. And not only could you spec your own finishes/neck/who-knows-what-else, but you'd even get a nice hard case with it.

What exactly are you getting for your equivalent dollars with this Korean-made Lakin? A more "boutique-ish" decal on the headstock?

That's very disappointing. As someone mentioned earlier...US G&L.
Yup, G&L never makes mistakes. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/g-l-order-placed-the-waiting-begins.1009214/

I OPENED for "The E-Cocks" at Boner-oo!

Nobody (that I read) is "bashing" off-shore, or RW, or anything. Nobody is being "crucified" either.
Beleeb me, by NOW, Dan Lakin knows there was a shipping error, is sorry, will fix it. and won't let it happen again.
And I said earlier it's possible his gigbags are in a container on a ship. I had all sorts of customers ask me "When?" when I rep'd 'em.

My preference is for US built or Italian, or British, etc. basses, but not so much Asian offshore, except of course Japan, of which I have (6) all spectacular.
Don't bug me, I can feel any way I want!

Now- I heard that at some point, D.Lakin may be making limited runs of hand-built US basses. Being the snob that I am, that interests me.

And here is a little true ditty- that does have a similarity- (You judge):

My BRAND NEW Lull T-Bass arrived on my B-day no less:bassist:

Bbbbbut... When I opened the suspicious White case, it was NOT mine! It was a J-Bass.
(2) basses were shipped that day, and yes, they were mis-labeled.
Mike spent hundreds of dollars, literally to have MY T-Bass shipped Next-day Air from NY to me in Los Angeles, and the J-Bass picked up vice-versa.

Stuff happens, scuffing or mis-labeling.
No one is perfect. Except Roger Sadowsky!:roflmao:

Indeed. If anything, Mr. Lakin should be thrilled with the vigorous defense of his new company earned no doubt by years of good will via Lakland. So I say good for him. I didn't see anyone bashing him personally or wishing ill on his new venture, but by some of the responses you'd think they were.

Ultimately the question will be the available market for another Lakland who, to their credit, manages to sell Asian-built, case-less instruments for USA-built, case-included prices from other vendors. Can lightning strike twice? Perhaps. Only time can say. Early QC issues may be the make-it-or-break-it factor.

Straw man alert?

I don't think anyone was arguing for G&L because they never make a mistake. Rather, that for the same money one could get a USA-made G&L with a case.
Not a straw man at all. Simply pointing out that every company, even one praised to the skies on here like G&L, can make a mistake. (Or in the case of that G&L, multiple mistakes.) Those judging this new venture on one shipping mistake are, IMO, misguided. The long run is vastly more important.

The country-of-origin thing--I understand some have preferences, but it's not an objective measure of anything. If the quality and value-for-dollar is there, then it ought to survive in the marketplace. Certainly Lakland Skylines have held their own (and arguably more) vs. US-made G&L's over time.

Id be interested to know what the business model is for an offshore bass sold for premium money. It worked for Lakland but in reality, can't you buy a US Fender or Musicman for similar money with a case and US service ?
See my post above. "US service"? Lakland isn't using offshore call centers, I doubt Dan is either.;)

well....IMHO.....and that is all it is.... I like my skylines more than any US Fender I have played in years.....i even sold a limited edition US fender P when I purchased a used skyline Bob glaub on a whim....I liked the skyline that much more.

I'm going OT, but G&L seems to be regarded mostly with apathy around here. Scroll down the list of threads and you'll see "G&L Club Part 7" followed by "Spector Club Part 78." I don't know what G&L is doing wrong, but their marketing/branding obviously isn't working. Perhaps they just need to change their name to something more "boutique-ish" to get the sales and recognition they probably deserve.
