Look bottom line is he'll get the kinks out. I get that part, assuming you want your business to flourish, you need to get the kinks out. Unfortunately in the rush to get your product to market these things happen, I realize that. But if this is your big debut, you gotta spend more time going over everything. Even in the Skyline stuff, if you're taking it out of the case and inspecting it and that is part of the price premium, if the stuff don't line up, you don't ship it. That's what the customer is paying for. Ultimately the market will determine your success and if the market isn't in agreement, then you gotta change something or fall flat.

You'd hope. I just don't know that the marketplace is demanding yet another Fender clone company, let alone another off-shore fender clone company.

In an earlier post you mentioned tuners not being installed correctly on a Skyline. Is this what you're referring to now? Was this your bass, and what was the resolution?

What case?

Could be mistaken but the blue JO might be one of the protos. It will be interesting to hear Ed's review, but I guess he's giving it away that "it kills".

I'm going OT, but G&L seems to be regarded mostly with apathy around here. Scroll down the list of threads and you'll see "G&L Club Part 7" followed by "Spector Club Part 78." I don't know what G&L is doing wrong, but their marketing/branding obviously isn't working. Perhaps they just need to change their name to something more "boutique-ish" to get the sales and recognition they probably deserve.
My impression of the G&L fanbase here is that it is small but rabid. Potential issues sometimes get overlooked, like the ski jump necks that have developed on some of the older ones, and the generally heavier weight (a negative for some, but not others).

Re: sales, I think they just need to distribute the damn things if they want to sell more. In the greater Chicago area, I know of exactly one dealer who sells their basses and the store is well outside the city limits. I'd like to drive out there one day and try some G&Ls, but it's hard to get motivated to do so when I've got the vast, high-quality inventories of Bass Club Chicago and Chicago Music Exchange less than 20 minutes away.

Man I hate to see Dan starting off like this. It's funny how much difference 2 cents worth of foam wrap can make.

And I have to ask this...why aren't you guys considering the new Carvin Jazz bass? If it had a more Fendery headstock would it be more popular?
The Carvin is made in the USA, comes with a case, and costs less than $1000 shipped to your door. It can even be built to your specs somewhat for that price. Get it up to the price of a Lakin and you're looking at an exotic wood top and fingerboard, triple step finish, and 5 piece neck.

Not to downplay the bummer factor of getting a less than perfect instrument but I would like to take one for the team and put an end to this dispute. I offer to buy #001 at full price and enjoy it. It will be in worse shape after I play the sh#t out of it for 1 week:-)
