A very very late NBD! I actually went to a local-ish shop and got this exactly three weeks ago.
Long story: A bass I had been GASing over for a year is the ESP LTD F-4, but none were available locally and it was a bit too much for me to blindly purchase it online. After a conversation with a fellow TB-er (See here. Thank you, K-2!) I found a somewhat close store that had a different version with an active EQ and different pickups, but it would still give me a good idea on how it sounds and plays. Also mentioned in that conversation, I had wondered if an M-1004 would be perfect for me because of the dual humbuckers and the ability to coil split.
Well, as you might have guessed by the title, this shop happened to have a lightly used M-1004 in stock! I played it non-stop for a long time, and then asked one of the associates to hold it for me behind the counter. After taking it home, I began searching for which strings were already on it, as they felt amazing and the bass was already set up from the shop with super low action and intonated perfectly. Those strings turned out to be GHS Pressurewounds, and those strings will be my go-to from now on.
The bass is really punchy, the neck is a dream, and it has so much versatility for lacking an Active EQ! Between the pickup balance and the coil split, there is a wide array of tonal options for this bass.
It took me so long to post about it because getting around to taking a photo of it was harder than I had thought, but I finally did it today. This one is tough to light because of how glossy it is! But it looks awesome in person.
