Ok, so technically, as it has not arrived, it's not really a NBD, but I had to share anyway, because the story is priceless!
I live up in WA, and found the bass on a CL listing in LA area. It was at a pawn shop, and over-priced. well maybe not too over-priced considering what I have seen others selling for, but nonetheless more than I wanted to pay. So I called a dealer friend who said the "book" value was less, and I called and offered them "book" for it.
The guy who owns the shop is, um, irritable to say the least. Tells me he has already dropped the price, blah blah, and... He won't sell out of state. I have to come get it or have someone else come get it. Tells me it is like new and almost perfect etc etc.
So I call a friend to ask him to go look at it and buy it for me. 90 minute round trip to the store for him, plus time there. He's willing. He gets there, bass does not work. Needs a battery. Then bass does not work. Now there is a broken (ground?) wire. I call the store while my friend is there and the owner offers to take a few hundred off and I can have it as is. Fine, i'll take it.
Friend calls me back from his car. Just left. Owner did not sell to him unless he had CASH, even though he takes credit cards. Hoo boy. Total freak show going on here. Says he'll fix it and up the price tomorrow and my friend can come back and get it then. I tell him we just made a deal, and my friend traveled 90 minutes round trip plus time in store, now he has to do it AGAIN? No one discussed 'cash'.
Anyway, this guy says he'll transfer the bass to another store 20 minutes from my friends house, and he can get it cash today. Ok, fine, whatever, let's just get it done. So today my friend picked up my soon-to-be Kubicki. He'll drop it at a UPS store to get it shipped tonight.
I've always wanted to try one of these. Unless the electronics are completely fried, I got a steal of a price on it. Even then, I got a very good price on it. My friend will get free lodging with me in Mexico this winter.
So here it is... Hopefully I actually have it by next Tuesday.
