NBD! Extremely special Peavey T-40!

It’s amazing how much of a bad rap the T-40 gets for weight and yet a USA Fender Jazz Standard is every bit just as heavy and no one cries or rants about it.

Yes. Plenty of basses from that time period were just as heavy. That was considered desirable. Where as now it's really gone in the opposite direction and people are wanting lighter instruments. I wonder if it is because T 40's look heavy and that contributes to their reputation for weight. I mean, they look like they should weigh 25 pounds or more, with the bridge weighing at least 10 pounds by itself! Tanks ain't light.

My 2016 Fender USA Jazz Standard is just as heavy....only 5 years ago.

Oh yeah. I have a 2017 EBMM Stingray that weighs 11 lbs. Great sounding bass too. Heavier instruments were just more en vogue back in the T40's heyday.

Interesting info on the pin striped truss cover. Mine has one of those pin striped covers. Mine must be a really early one too.

Your t-40 is probably the nicest one I've ever seen.

The OP's new T40 is the nicest T40 I've ever seen. I plan on making a voodoo doll of him and stabbing it just a little bit. It's only fair..........

I sure wish I'd kept my T-40! I had the very first one in Indianapolis IN. I just happened to be in the Castleton IRC Music store when they unpacked it. At that time, I was a *very* regular customer of theirs, so they let me play around with it after they gave it a quick-n-dirty setup... and I ended up walking out of the store with it that very day... it never even made it to the showroom wall.

I kept it for a short while, and then ended up trading it for something else, probably my Walnut 4001 Ric (yet another one that I sure wish I had back!!)

thanks! Yeah it’s in great condition especially considering the age… sounds great and does everything a T-40 does. I’ve not been able to A/B against another T-40 yet as they’re currently packed away while I’m decorating… also annoyingly my guitar tools are boxed up somewhere too and it could do with some adjustments! It’s hard to get on with decorating when you just want to play your new bass!!

ha ha! Well, that’s the worst bit! We did!! 5 months ago we moved house and for some reason decided to decorate the whole place before properly moving in… still going! There are 3 rooms we just have stuff piled up in still. Feels never ending

The house I'm going to I've owned for many years, but, stupidly, I moved back to the city for work and it's been tenanted in the interim. Whilst it's not beaten up, they haven't maintained it like I would, so I have a ton of painting and updates to do when I get there. Knowing what I'm like, the dogs and I will live in the lounge until the maintenance is complete otherwise none of it will be done. Besides I hope to live there until I die and if I do it now I'm still fit enough (only in my 50s) where it's not going to be a strain on the health. Still think I'll set up a practice space in the corner of the LR though.

I’ve been aware of it for years… never thought I’d see it in the flesh of course… then the owner posted it on Facebook a couple of years ago, I tried but couldn’t get near the valuation (I even tried a two for one trade on 2 other T-40s I had!) then recently he decided it was definitely time to sell, and luckily this time it was available cheaper than before.

Nice Peavey - love the blonde body with silver parts combo. Congrats!
