After two solid years of searching I managed to find the bass that has long eluded me - a Seminole Red AV 63 P.

And what a bass. It stands up well next to the Sonic Blue AV 63, Blonde AV 58, and Lake Placid Blue AV 64 Jazz basses that I have. I think the American Vintage line may be some of the best Fender basses I have played, period - they compare well to my Custom Shop basses.

This particular bass took a fair bit of setting up; I was annoyed at how poorly it was set up, and surprised that it was sent in such terrible shape from what is advertised as an eminent retailer of rare and vintage instruments. But anyway - all seems fine now. Looking forward to lots of practice time with this one.

The red finish is sooooooooo deep yet vibrant!! It looks like your bass has been dipped into a lake of liquid lipstick.

And I agree. The American Vintage basses (starting with the collectible 1982 AVRI models and moving on through the latest lineup) are stellar. They easily compare with (and often equal) basses coming out of the Custom Shop.

Really nice, grats. But in terrible shape? Looks nearly pristine to my eyes. Is the back dorked up or something?

Anyway, great color on that one, don't recall seeing many Seminole Red AV's.
The bass is cosmetically in good shape - but all strings buzzed from the 2nd fret onwards when I checked it on arrival. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying to have an instrument arrive where there was clearly no attempt by the shop to set it up to a remotely playable state. But hey ho.

Beautiful bass!

I'm often annoyed by off-the-rack Fender setups. It's often so bad that it's tough to get a feel for what the bass actually feels like. I imagine in most cases, it's the neck moving due to weather changes and shops just not touching them. You would think that the people trying to sell instruments would want them to play well so they would actually sell!

When was this bass built?

It was pretty amazing how far off the set-up was when I received it. It was completely unplayable.
