NBD Fender Aerodyne Precision Bass

Yeah, you're the one. I had never played one, never seen one, never wanted one and then "POW!" you had to post yours. It's either your fault or divine intervention.

These are unique in appearance and sound. The neck is fatter than my Thunderbird Classic IV Pro; so, that will take a little getting used to. The set up needs some tweaking and the 1/4" jack has some issues with the connection. I may need to take that apart and make some adjustments

I have the same bass but in the yellow. I replaced my jack about two weeks after I bought mine. There is no "adjusting to be done on them. I am still not especially thrilled with this style of jack but it is working and the cord does not fall out anymore!

Was there a specific jack you used to replace it? I am also thinking the wiring needs to be checked because the P pickup is way stronger. As I back off the J pickup the other increases dramatically. If I turn the P down the J sounds weak and the other thing is the tone control works in reverse. I got a feeling someone changed PUps at some point and crossed the white and black.

I used a Switchcraft Mono Panel Jack that I bought from Amazon.

After seeing one recently, the GAS got the best of me and I bought this off a fellow TB member. It showed up today. and as he said the case had some issues but the bass is beautiful. Hopefully, I'll get time to play it this evening. The locks on the Fender case have issues (like someone having forced them open); but, fortunately, I save the SKB case that used to hold the MIM Jazz I sold last year.

Awesome! Welcome to the club. Love my Aerodynes. For the latches on the Fender: they're all from Penn-Elcom. Just hit up their site and find the latches... they're pretty cheap and you can order direct from Penn.

I always wondered about these; as I've never seen one up close and personal... are they a slab cut? ...is there a tummy cut on the back?
The tops are slightly arched, not slab, and they do have the usual belly cut on the back. No forearm cut, though.

If they made those things in a 5 string I would own one in every color (the J versions too).
Not going to happen by Fender, but if someone else made one (or offered to), would you consider?

I opened it up tonight to see what was going on and discovered one of the ground wires was loose. While I was checking it out I saw the sleeve terminal on the jack had solder on it and was subsequently too close to the tip connector. I gently bent it slightly and everything is working fine.

Played it again and I am loving it more by the minute.

That leaves me with just replacing the locks on the case; which, seems pretty straight forward.
