Mint pickguards are better than tort

I like them both. Mint on Olympic White. Tortoiseshell on three tone Fender Sunburst.

Haha, I was considering selling the Jazz anyway.

My PBass also has a ‘minty’ coloured pick guard. My original photo doesn’t really show it.

OK, I'm in Love with a Fender again. I know, BIG surprise, right? But this was too easy. Please forgive the foregoing poor quality cell phone photos. I sold all my camera gear last year to help pay for a coffin.

Normally I detest plain black or white instruments. In this case the Fender Olympic White is just stunning. So rich and creamy, it looks as if it had been dipped. Flawless in every respect. I used to think why would anyone ever want a mint pickguard? Well, now I know. In person it reveals itself in a very visually pleasing presentation. I like it.

To say it plays great and sounds fantastic would be an understatement. The factory setup was good and only required a little tweak after its journey to the east coast. I'll address the new V Mod pickups and the neck in separate posts.

Awesome bass. My AVRI looks exactly the same and I love the mint guard. I am almost always a Tort lover, but I have never had the urge to change it in this case. This thing screams Brian Wilson, and it just looks killer as is.

The PU overall isn't as hot as my other P basses but the B is about as solid and balanced as you'll hear on a 34 scale P bass

I put a set of fender red label strings on the P5 and took it to rehearsal tonight. I couldn't be happier with that bass. The B is thunderous and clear.
I may have to look at a jazz V. Hmm...

I may have to look at a jazz V. Hmm...

V-Mod pickups clarity is what also astounded me ! The output is not super high but the level of balance and clarity is decidedly high IMO

How do the VMod lows sound to Vintage Pups

I only have my CS 60 PU's to compare to but the 60's have a more pronounced mid spectrum.
Luckily, a P bass can benefit from a bit of scoop but that's not to say they're scooped in general.
The V mods seem well suited for the B string.
At times I forget I'm playing a P bass and just enjoy playing an excellent bass that can do it all.
I didn't like the V mods when I first tried them but they grew on me.
The guy who designed them must have lost a lot of sleep in doing so.
I've played quite a few P 5 style basses and some boutique ones and more often than not, the B misses the mark.
Everyone knows how good the B can be on an L2500 and this one is equal for power and clarity.
I'm using a 125 on this bass which I thought would be too light but it works great even without the tapered end.

Regarding the Pro Jazz 5, the neck profile is exactly the same as the Pro P5. So if you love the Pro P neck you'll be pleased with the feel of the jazz.

The thing is that all Fender Precision pickups from the very beginning have a very strong pronounced midrange. So much so that it came to be known as the Precision 'Honk'. It was right around 625-650Hz. This is what actually led to the popular 'scooping' of the mids. The VMods have a good strong and balanced honkless midrange. Bottom end is clear and authoritative. Top end is crystalline and soaring.

Planning mint on daphne blue relic ... it's not a Fender body ... but it will have a Fender pro fretless neck ... have to learn to paint the headstock ...
